House Republicans, American People Protest “Drill-Nothing” Congress
Representative John Boehner's Website ^ | August 4, 2008 | Representative John Boehner

Washington - The U.S. House of Representatives truly became the People’s House on Friday, August 1 when hundreds of American citizens and families joined Republicans on the House floor to protest Democratic leaders’ decision to send Congress home for a five-week break without voting on energy reform legislation.

This historic event was not just about gas prices; it was about the power of democracy. Throughout the summer, the Democratic leadership in the House had refused to allow a vote on legislation to help lower fuel costs and put us on the road to energy independence, despite widespread public support for such legislation among the American people. When Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) closed down the U.S. House for the five-week break on August 1 without an energy vote, House Republicans took to the Floor in protest. When the lights, microphones and cameras were shut off, we raised our voices to speak for the American people who for too long have been ignored by this "Drill-Nothing Congress.”

The House Repubs better get their protests in now. If Obambi gets to play pretend-dictator, he'll have anyone that annoys him arrested.

Yes, this is communism and only the poor will receive.

His definition of working families is not the same as the rest of the population.

” Friday, August 1 when hundreds of American citizens and families joined Republicans on the House floor...”

I’ve been under a rock and havent seen any TV news since Friday afternoon (and MSM wasn’t broadcasting this then), and so I want to know if the MSM has made this remarkable event public.

I keep checking and I don’t see it other than on FNC.

Just another case of the DBM cleansing democrats.

Tragic! Unbelievable that there is no MSM coverage on this history being made.

What happened to the rights of the American people? I guess when Americans demand their constitutional rights, this censorship will change.

the PMSM is beholden to the speaker (she who mut be obeyed) - otherwise the vindictive dems will make sure they never have a good news day ever again....

There are plenty of reasons Queen Nancy can’t and won’t bring this to a vote. The biggest, of course, is she can’t admit defeat on the issue. Of course, if anyone is allowed to speak to the facts of drilling, Nancy will look like an even bigger fool. Real oil men, the ones that risk millions to drill, will be happy to point out to her that yes, they may have 68,000,000 acres, but there isn’t any OIL under most of it.

Her other big problem is that the American public is really educating themselves on the issue. They aren’t falling for that “Bush’s oil buddies” or “evil oil companies” crap - the Wall Street Journal handed the Dems their collective heads on a platter with that article on the windfall profits tax yesterday.

Keep it up, Pubbies. Perhaps by the end of the 5 week break, you’ll have thousands there. (Although, I hope people are confronting their Dem congress critters while they are home as well.)

Nancy will look like an even bigger fool. Is that really possible for that control freak?

Not really. She couldn’t look like a bigger clown even if she appeared in public with a red rubber nose and a rainbow afro wig.

A physical improvement IMO. I know, I’m not being nice - mean old conservative that I am.

I used to have an office downtown across from Lotta’s Fountain in S.F. At the 100th Anniversary commemoration of the Great Quake, her Majesty road under my window (which opened) in a covertible. I longed for water balloons. BIG water balloons.

You’re right. When the people do not demand their rights, those rights erode away.
