But were you there during Muhammad Zia’s rule? He had the coup there during that time and had declared marshall law, right?

Zia was after my time, though my dad knew him as he (Dad) was the Assistant Air Attache to the US Embassy - actually, back in those days we and everybody else called it the American Embassy. Don’t get me started...

I was there while Zia was president. My dad was there working for USAID off and on in the 80's.

There was actually a major American presence in Pakistan at that time - the US extended a bunch of aid to Pakistan in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1980.
