Bay Staters dish out $4M to dine with Barack Obama

About 850 people attended the fund-raiser, which cost between $1,000 and $4,600 per ticket. Among those, 250 also ate dinner with Obama - for $15,000 per ticket or $28,500 per couple.

Guests began dinner with heaping helpings of field greens, heirloom lettuces, candied hazelnuts and port-soaked currants tossed with a sherry Dijon vinaigrette.

The main course: cinnamon-and-red-wine-braised short ribs and roasted porcini-crusted sea bass, plus a trio of potato confit, and hand-rolled gnocchi with wild mushrooms and a vegetable bouquet.

Guests washed down that sumptuous repast with a perky 2004 Cloudy Bay Sauvingnon Blanc “Te Koko” and an impertinent 2004 Estancia Meritage Paso Robles.

Dessert, which the birthday boy skipped, was a white chocolate Genoise layered with milk chocolate and wild berry mousse topped with fresh berries.

The pricey vittles helped the candidate raise some $4 million, according to Alan Solomont, a prominent Democratic fund-raiser.

Among the other local leaders who paid their respects: Gov. Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Congressmen Edward Markey and William Delahunt, and former Gov. Michael Dukakis.

As we speak, cars in Boston and factories in Beijing are melting the ice caps in the Arctic, shrinking coastlines in the Atlantic, and bringing drought to farms from Kansas to Kenya.

roasted porcini-crusted sea bass,

From the Wiki entry on sea bass:

According to Seafood Watch, the Chilean sea bass is currently on the list of fish that American consumers who are sustainability-minded should avoid.

Liberal elites - do as I say, not as I do.

I doubt anyone could raise that kind of money, if they just served rubber chicken and ice cream...

Now contrast this with McCain, hanging out with bikers at Sturgis.

It makes perfect sense to me. One of the synonyms for impertinent is:

insulting or arrogantly contemptuous

Sounds like a perfect choice for Obama.

I find it more ill-tempered than impertinent!

personally I find obama to be unpalatable, its very earthy with nutty undertones and a very weak finish...

Are ‘heirloom lettuces’ a step up from the audacity of arugula?

Being an old country boy I just buy heads of plain ol lettuce myself and had no idea until the arrival of THE ONE that lettuce came in so many elite diversities.

Is it me, or is Obama coloring his hair with grey now to look older (ie: pretend he is experienced) ???
