There’s nothing even remotely funny about a tragic accident involving someone just doing their job.

"I really didnt think I needed the /sarc tag."Lately around here, I guess you just don't know.
In view of that, I tried to make my response temperate and non personal.
Not like the old days around here.

There was an antique fire show in Syracuse this past weekend. It happens every three years and I was going to say likely that’s where he was coming from.
I googled it and sadly, am correct.

NYS troopers are the best. They are always parked behind some disabled vehicle helping them out and protecting them from the manics on interstate 81 or the Thruway. I always fear for their safety because there’s always idiots who won’t pull over into the next lane to pass them safely.
What a tragedy.

I was out near Hamilton (Moraine Lake) this weekend, and there were model A’s and T’s going one direction, and antique FT’s headed in the other...

We’ve been to that show when my son was younger and a real fireman and firetruck fan.
I was also on the Thruway this weekend with him and he noticed the same thing and we remembered the show. It only happens every three years.

People really need to go back and read the whole story...
The Trooper's death was senseless, and obviously the driver of the FT was poorly trained in ladder operation, especially situational awareness.

...this was a parade detail. It sounds like it was just a trooper helping out a motorist. The articles didn't mention anything about other trucks with them.

perhaps so.. "The fire truck, from the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation, was being returned to Canada from a parade near Syracuse when a tire went flat near the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, said Ogdensburg Police Chief Richard Polniak."

My nephew Brett is a NY Trooper from near Lake Oneida. I hate to have to read the name and then let out a sigh of relief knowing another family isn't so lucky.

And if it were just the driver, I doubt I'd object to the Darwin comment, although that falls far short of the level of stupidity that seems to be required for Darwin. It's the trooper getting caught in it too, that just makes it all the worse. This was mostly just carelessness as far as I can see.

"What a tragedy." Says it all. Troopers are our every day good guys... however imperfect.
And the folks trying to preserve and show us our past.. again, imperfect, but we need them to do these things..P> The whole thing is just as you say.. a tragedy..

For all the *bad* cops threads and all the misconduct that you hear about in the general police force, I’ve never heard that about our NY troopers.
Every single one of them that I’ve encountered has been very professional.

My son wants to be a trooper, he starts college in a Criminal Justice program at the end of the month.
I have always had a very professional experience with the State Troopers here in New York.
