Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed a temporary one-cent increase in the state sales tax for the next three years in exchange for long-term fixes he believes would solve the state's perennial budget woes, several sources familiar with the negotiations said Monday.

The governor's proposal comes as he and lawmakers are 35 days into the fiscal year with no approved spending plan.

There is no such thing as a temporary tax increase.

Good thing you didn’t support McClintock. You might have handed the election to a liberal.

*shrug*

They told me if I voted for McClintock I'd get my taxes raised.

I did, and by golly, they were right!

He would be better off suspending the legislatures pay until they do their jobs. Laying people off and only paying state people minimum wages punishes the wrong people. Stop spending money and and cut their pay every time they don’t meet budget requirements. Also, stop pay for illegals medical and schooling.

Wasn’t Jerkenator elected to fix the budget problems in CA? I guess his liberal spending got out of control.

Government layoffs are the best short term and long term fix for CA. Oh yeah, you can cut out health care and welfare for illegals as well — I bet that would help.

Agreed.
Neither will happen - but agreed.
At some point this out of control 'blob' of a government is going to completely take down this state.

This is a broad-based tax that will hit those at the bottom of the economic scale hardest.

They will finally learn that they cannot have what they want at no cost, because everything is paid for by the rich.

Thats right!!! It looks like he is doing a worse job than Grey Davis.

At any rate, now that the 'cat is out of the bag', you can look for many businesses to leave California over the next few years. The migration of businesses out of California will hurt the budget even more and will lead to more tax increases which will lead to more businesses and wealthy folks leaving the state, which will lead to...

For those of us who buy on the internet, from non-tax entities, this is less of hit. I was afraid of what Sacto was going to do to my income tax rates.

Too bad that Sacto won’t go along with anyone putting a crimp on their spending though. This will just encourage them.
