Of course it allowed him to act as gatekeeper and freeze out any agenda he disapproved of, one of which happened to be addressing the problem of illegal immigration. Norquist is a major amnesty pusher and has been for years.

Yep. He has always been a liberal neocon (but I repeat myself) that has talked tough when it comes to taxes and such, like so many party-line libertarians, but has no sense of traditional American conservatism.

Of course, don't a lot of amnesty pushers hide under the skirt of "conservatism?" ;)
