Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.
In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (A Call to Action on American Energy), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Fridays action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going.
Its not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering, Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. Weve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.
We realize not everyone can be in Washington next week. But if you can be, we ask that you come to the Capitol, join our colleagues, and lend your voice, beginning this Monday at 10:00 am, the GOP leaders wrote. If you cant be in Washington, we ask that you contribute to the cause in other ways such as spreading the word among your constituents, writing an op-ed for your local newspaper, or taking our all of the above energy message to your local airwaves.
Republicans stand with the American people. We share their passion and determination for energy independence, and weve pledged to fight boldly until Congress heeds their will, Boehner and Blunt concluded.
That's the point of this "bravado", as you call it: to GET the housde back in session.
This could be the biggest week of the campaign if he (McCain) did that.
And if this is providing impetus for President Bush to call Congress back to Washington, then so be it. Winter is coming and heating oil prices are absurd. Don’t wait for the first cold snap to do something, we need an energy policy now. And we need to take the governmentback from dictator Pelosi, that woman is dangerous.
I pointed out on a different thread that I don't think this was at all spontaneous. The idea is to give the president the political cover necessary to call Congress back into session. It also works around the embargo the MSM is putting on this story and lets it gain traction through the New Media. During the next week, it will be difficult to impossible for the MSM to ignore this. They may make fun of it, but it's still out there for all to see. By Friday, I expect the president to call Congress back into session, and it will look as though Congressional Republicans put a gun to the president's head and made him do this. It will make the party in Congress look good at just the right time. The icing on the cake would be if McCain came back to Washington and made this part of the campaign.
He disagreed with the idea that this was spontaneous and then went on to say all good things about the Republicans. I don't see any whining.
I'm just nit picking and I guess feeling bad for the original poster. I am a woman, as you might guess--sensitive and all that. :-)
Thank you. Got cookies made to keep Mr. Goldwater Chick happy so I can catch up here!
The house Rs fianlly show some backbone....let’s give em a call of support.
Mean while in the Senate members are being fitted for their new Monica Lewinsky knee pads
Do you mean justcan’tmakeupmymind?

$20 to FR says that when the Dems get back in town, the ‘Pubs become meek little children again.
Hey.....
I’m not representing ANYONE!!
I just email Rush. I told him to get a lawyer to sue Pelosi to turn the camera back on. Ann Coulter could do it but I don't know how to email her.
I am also working the phones. CSPAN promised they would broadcast the feed if the camera is turned back on. I am also going down the list calling congressmen. I have left two voice mails for Pelosi. My primary message is: We can't afford to take a vacation because of you so it is really insensitive for you to be on vacation. My second point is on the totalitarian tactics of the CSPAN blck-out.
I just called in on the 800 capital hill line and they patched me into Senator McCain’s office (because I am from AZ) and just talked with one of his staffers. I told him how important this drilling issue is and that the Republicans in the House are doing a wonderful thing and it would be free press and a great opportunity if Senator McCain would show up and support what they are trying to do there. He said he would pass my comments along....
I guess none of the Reps who returned have a book to promote.
I'm going to be working the phone and email all day. FOX News sucks. They aren't covering it because they are too interested in the tabloid crap
Someone posted a great list of phone numbers for FOX on air folks on Friday and now I can't find it. If anyone knows where I can find it let me know.
You know pelosi is buying tons of her own book to pump up the money, but it is still sinking.
That would be Communism.
I don't think anyone minds. At least so far.
I have not found anyone here to be anything but nice...well, maybe one, but that's water...
Afterall, she is one of those eeeeevil rich white folk.
Many thanks to you. You are very appreciated for
doing what you do.
