Am wondering if this pronouncement; which is a truth expressed, for sure - if somewhat carefully - is his way of getting acquainted with a larger 'body electorate'. And if it is by request that he do so. . .
Pawlenty is a good Governor who has kept the Minnesota legislature from massive tax increases by use if the veto. Democrats hate him.
Although he is not as conservative as some southern GOP governors, he is definitely right of center (which is saying something in as state like Minnesota.)
Some of my GOP friends are hoping Pawlenty is not elected VPOTUS because they want him to stay here as governor. He has a very good wit, and a quick mind. His speaking ability would rank a whole lot higher than McCain’s. He is not a bland candidate. He serves as chairman of the U.S. Governor’s Conference this past year. He’s quite good-looking too - which I can mention as I’m a gal. HaHa! As for me, I still think Romney would be good, but I doubt he wil be chosen. And, I am very impressed with Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, but I guess another senator would not be a good thing.
Maybe the reason he is not better known is two-fold. First, he is not a typical liberal Minnesotan like Humphrey, Wellstone or Mondale - hence the national media ignores him), and second the national media tend to ignore Midwesterners anyway and especially a conservative governor who has been successful!
