MARTY ON BARACK: The New Mexico Republican Party on Friday fired off a news release highlighting comments that Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez, a Democrat, made to the National Journal about Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. The real question in my mind is whether Senator Obama is going to be able to capture Hispanics by a significant margin, the magazine quoted Chavez as saying. That's a big 'if,' because he's clearly an urbanite.
Chavez in a Friday interview with this newspaper said his point is that the presidential candidates need to reach out to Hispanics.
