NBC has picked the Udall-Pearce contest as one of several key Senate campaigns they will feature in debates this summer and fall.
Pearce will be walking tall this weekend with a new Zogby poll showing the race much tighter than previous polling. Udall leads Pearce by eight points, 49-41 per cent. That is compared to last week's Rasmussen poll, where Udall had a 25-point lead.
Pearce believes he is on the way to closing Udall's advantage.
The voters are hearing my message of drill for American oil, build nuclear. It also shows that Tom's support is collapsing - people are recognizing that his backing by extreme environmental groups is coming home to roost, Pearce said.
Udall and Pearce have agreed to three debates before election day. Udall's camp said the Meet the Press appearance should count as one of those. However, Pearce says there should be an additional three debates.

FWIW, Zogby had Ken Blackwell “only” down 5 in OH in 2006, when everyone else had him down 15. He lost by 25.
So this basically means NBC has decided to assist in Udall’s election with slanted coverage.
Yes but Pearce I believe has a real chance of closing the race. Yeah I remember Ken Blackwell, it was a pity he did not win but I think that regardless you have to be on the field of battle to win. My problem is the GOP seems to prefer fighting only battles that are easy. It is one reason people see Democrats as more capable of handling many issues when the reality is they can’t. If I were in control I’d assign individuals to help teach some of the novice candidates how to raise funds and present themselves. A national election for national offices should not be run as everyone is running alone. Messages should be synchronized and everyone should be working toward an ultimate goal.
Darn, this got my hopes up til I saw it was Zogby. Still, Republicans seem to be doing a bit better across the country. This energy issue seems to be resonating. If Republicans lose fewer Senate seats than expected than maybe they can hope for a comeback in 2010 and ‘12.
Zogby also showed Sen Dewine in Ohio closing the gap as I recall, but he lost badly. So I don’t really trust Zogby anymore.
Pearce better come out with some campaign ads or he’s never going to win. I’ve yet to see the first ad in my part of the state, but I see several of Udall every day.
That is what I don’t understand. Udall is so liberal that it shouldn’t be hard to hit him effectively.
There are a lot of liberals in NM who like Udall, but could be swayed to Pearce. If Pearce doesn't get his message out to all parts of the state, no one will know how much better he is than Udall is. I read his bio on his website, and I'm even more impressed with him now.
Udall hates me. I've written him and blasted him for several years. My favorite was when I nailed him about guns, and he wrote me back and said he was progun. LOL I sent him GOA'S rating. F- :o)
