Actually, the victim may have been dead by the first scream--we don't know that, but he could have been.

However, if someone had had the means to take the perp out, all of the passengers on the bus would not have had to spend the next several hours on the roadside being terrified of what was going on.

I still contend that one armed person on that bus could have made a big difference.
