I just engaged in the argument for fun. The guy exposed himself as a lightweight pretty quickly with his assertion that all truth is knowable and all truth is measurable.
Seriously, I don’t usually get into it, because their surface argument isn’t the real reason for their resistance to Christianity, it’s just an excuse.
The real reasons are pretty much only knowable to the individual,
and they are the answer to the question:
What will I have to give up in my life if I believe in the Christian worldview?
I asked Soliton this question, and he spurted “intellectual integrity” - obviously not. Someone with “intellectual integrity” doesn’t refuse to look at contradictory evidence, which he has twice.
The bible says to try twice when you witness to anyone, after that, move on, there are plenty of people out there that haven’t hardened their hearts and are needing to hear the witness, so don’t waste your time trying to harvest wheat from a thistle patch when there are 10 wheat heads awaiting a short distance away.
I just think it is ridiculous to confuse faith with knowledge.
***The two are not at odds with each other. The historicity of Jesus is just as strong as for any other character in history, but you seem to hold a special standard for historicity when it comes to christianity than for anything else in history. My faith derives from the historical knowledge that even the ENEMIES of Christ acknowledged that He was put to death for claiming equality with God. There’s no miracle in that statement, simply history. Your lack of regard for the science behind the historicity of events relating to christianity is your blind spot, and it makes you a poor scientist.
Oi Gevalt!
Why do you get to dictate truth based on a your timeline? Is this how you understand history?
Fine. Who did Nero attempt to blame for Romes destruction? Tacitus claims it was the Christians
But
I am not that complicated. I am better educated on the Bible than most priests. I am incapable of faith. That's it.
I don't. Ignore me
PROVE IT.
OK. Again, what are you - what do you believe?
sorry to hear, OK loveD?
prove what?
No, you didn’t stipulate that in your original argument.
Romans wouldn’t have kept records of slaves and Jews under their thumb.
You remind me of the continual goal-post mover...and that comic...
the atheist was claiming to be as good as God and when he began to scoop up some dirt to make something, God said: “Uh-uh...make your OWN dirt”!
I believe in scientific method as the only valid epistemological paradigm. There are many religions in the world based on wishful thinking or simple cultural imperative. I try not to accept anything as true without evidence.
There is no contemporaneous account of Jesus outside of the Bible, Roman or not.
darwin existed...
anything?
Why do you think there would be and whqat’s your point?
In perhaps as little as 500 years there may be little evidence you existed, but can this only mean you didn’t exist?
Cards on the table - I am Christian.
The one sentence troll who, by his own admission, had too much to think, isn’t worth anyone’s time, though, admittedly, he has managed to provoke some excellent posts refuting all of his single sentence shots and contradictions (see ## 15 & 16.)
I am me. I belong to no group. I may be autistic. I have a very high IQ (my mother stated 170, tested at 141 as adult). I read at a second semester 12th grade level in first grade (ARE).
I am incapable of faith.
The Jewish Sanhedrin put out a circular letter saying that they executed Jesus for blasphemy.
