Gearing up for 2009, liberals are eager to claim Massachusetts as a Valhalla of health reform. Their enthusiasm is apparently evidence-proof.
-SNIP-
Most of this growth in coverage has instead come via a new state entitlement called Commonwealth Care. This provides subsidized insurance to those under 300% of the poverty level, or about $63,000 for a family of four.
-SNIP
As this public option gets overwhelmed, budget gaskets are blowing everywhere. Mr. Patrick had already bumped up this year's spending to $869 million, $144 million over its original estimate. Liberals duly noted that these tax hikes are necessary because enrollment in Commonwealth Care is much higher than anticipated. But of course more people will have coverage if government gives it to them for free.
-SNIP_
Mr. Patrick wants one-time (yeah, right) charges of $33 million on insurers and $28 million on providers, plus some shuffling of state funds. The balance comes from an estimated $33 million boost in the state's "pay or play" tax: If businesses don't offer "fair and reasonable" insurance to their employees, they get hit.
-SNIP-
A state-sponsored study shows that total spending on mandates was $1.32 billion in 2005, or 12% of premiums. The study is devastating despite its pro-mandate slant.
-SNIP-
Not that such practical lessons have stopped liberals from joining the Massachusetts parade. They have to gussy up the state's model because the extravagant claim that led to its creation -- that health care will be less expensive if everyone is covered -- is being relentlessly discredited.

“Yes, it was foolish to expect an electorate this dumb wouldn’t change it after he left office.”
I missed that, what did the electorate change in the Romneycare plan?
The competition that year was extremely weak (Shannon O'Brien) as was the economy (2002). Also, Romney was rushed in as a replacement candidate for the disastrous Jane Swift.
Maybe they elected him because he looks like a Kennedy and he’s an incredible businessman. Until recently many Republicans have been elected Govenor. Deval Patrick was a sad signal that swelling minority populations in cities like Boston are now in firm control.
So according to YOU, Myth Romney came in as MIGHTY MOUSE,
but the people got:
No, that’s according to you. Here was the competition...

THE REAL DEAL:
The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.
The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to New Hampshire Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.
- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006
"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,
[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."
- Boston Globe, 11/8/2006
So what’s your point? Someone asked how Romney got elected. I explained the reason. I don’t feel any need to defend Romney to you or anyone else. But given a choice between Shannon O’Brien and Mitt Romney, I’d vote Romney... again.
Of course you would. You are a BELIEVER.
A believer in what? (what other cool graphics can you post?)....snicker...
Romney's judges best show his contempt for the innocent and the GOP.
Myth Romney passed over GOP candidates and put in loser Democrat judges.
MORAL: Myth Romney let the GOP slide, and so the innocents had to die.
Something interesting I found just now when responding on another thread...
KEY ASPECTS OF ROMNEYS MASSACHUSETTS HEALTH CARE PLAN...
(1) Guarantees Planned Parenthood A Seat At The Table. Romneys legislation created an advisory board and guarantees, by law, that Planned Parenthood has a seat at the table. Romneys plan established a MassHealth payment policy advisory board, and one member of the Board must be from Planned Parenthood. No pro-life organization is represented. (Chapter 58 Section 3 (q) Section 16M (a), http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw06/sl060058.htm )
(2) Provides Taxpayer-Funded Abortions . Abortions are covered in the Commonwealth Care program that Romney created as Governor. Under the program, abortions are available for a copay of $50. (Menu of Health Care Services: http://www.mass.gov/Qhic/docs/cc_benefits1220_pt234.pdf )
- Romney used his line-item veto authority to strike eight sections of the bill that he found objectionable, including the expansion of dental benefits to Medicaid recipients. Yet, he did not strike Planned Parenthoods guaranteed Board representation and he did nothing to prohibit taxpayer-funded abortions as part of his plan. (Romneys Health Care Vetoes, Associated Press, 4/12/06)
(3) Punitive Toward Small Businesses. Small Businesses are fined $295-per-employee if they do not provide health insurance coverage to employees. (Steve LeBlanc, Mass Lawmakers Ok Mandatory Health Bill, Associated Press, 4/5/06)
(4) Punitive Toward Individuals. Individuals not obtaining health insurance coverage lose their personal state tax exemption in 2007, which will cost them an estimated $219 in higher taxes. In 2008, uncovered individuals are assessed a fine equal to 50-percent of the cost of a standard insurance policy, which could be as much as $2,000. (Michael Tanner, No Miracle In Massachusetts, Cato Institute, 6/6/06; Steve LeBlanc, Timing Of Health Care Laws Penalties Could Pose Risk For Romney, MA, Associated Press, 11/9/07; William C. Symonds, In Massachusetts, Health Care for All? Business Week, 4/4/06 )
Oh yeah, a persaonl favorite:
THE ACTUAL FLYER OF SERVICES FROM MAs HEALTHCARE PROGRAM:
Then I suppose I should be honored by your attention. Have a nice day and you're right... I often don't read the Boston Phoenix and I suspect neither would you if you lived anywhere near Boston.
Why?
He's been sitting in the governor's mansion since January 2007 along with his lackeys in the state legislature which actually "fine tuned" it.
Search is our friend. Blind Anger is not.
Maybe you could change the title to "hey, we need another Romney Bashing Thread".
When the sheeple demand socialized medicine, there are three options:
Do I prefer a rare and principled kind of leader like Jesse Helms or Tom Coburn? Absolutely, when the electorate is smart enough to choose them.
But if I were stuck in the People's Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the probability of anyone less liberal getting elected than Romney is slim to none.
