“Yes, it was foolish to expect an electorate this dumb wouldn’t change it after he left office.”

I missed that, what did the electorate change in the Romneycare plan?

What did such liberal voters see in Mitt Romney that they liked so much, they elected him as their governor?

The competition that year was extremely weak (Shannon O'Brien) as was the economy (2002). Also, Romney was rushed in as a replacement candidate for the disastrous Jane Swift.

Maybe they elected him because he looks like a Kennedy and he’s an incredible businessman. Until recently many Republicans have been elected Govenor. Deval Patrick was a sad signal that swelling minority populations in cities like Boston are now in firm control.

So according to YOU, Myth Romney came in as MIGHTY MOUSE,

the point is to fight it, not try to defend it. Everyone else was on board with everything Bush did because Bush could do no wrong. It’s great that everyone is picking on McCain where he is wrong but where were conservatives when Bush expanded govt for the past how many years?

Now you have a great point!

From the article YOU quoted, but did not completely read.

"He has contempt for the public he claims he wants to serve.
Does he think no one noticed that he pledged not to run against a sitting governor and then elbowed Jane Swift to the sidelines?
Does he think no one remembers that he promised to let voters pick his running mate and then pushed Patrick Guerriero out of the race to make room for the underwhelming and underqualified Healey?
Does he think voters weren’t insulted when he answered a challenge from O’Brien to agree to more debates by saying:
"It’s very, very important that all of our citizens get a good night’s sleep,
and if we have to have them watching these debates, they’re just going to get bored to tears and they’re not going to get a good night’s sleep."

"He (Romney) shows little respect for the work of government.
... "It’s not entirely clear why Romney, who ran for the US Senate in 1994,
lusts after something — a career in government — which he so clearly loathes.
Is it power-mongering? Ambition? Ego-tripping?
Who knows. But it’s something Romney should work out in therapy on his own time and his own dime. "

THE REAL DEAL:

“The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.
The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to New Hampshire Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.”

- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006

"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
“Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,”
[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."
- Boston Globe, 11/8/2006

So what’s your point? Someone asked how Romney got elected. I explained the reason. I don’t feel any need to defend Romney to you or anyone else. But given a choice between Shannon O’Brien and Mitt Romney, I’d vote Romney... again.

Normally, don't do requests.

Romney's judges best show his contempt for the innocent and the GOP.
Myth Romney passed over GOP candidates and put in loser Democrat judges.

MORAL: Myth Romney let the GOP slide, and so the innocents had to die.

Something interesting I found just now when responding on another thread...

KEY ASPECTS OF ROMNEY’S MASSACHUSETTS HEALTH CARE PLAN...

(1) Guarantees Planned Parenthood A Seat At The Table. Romney’s legislation created an advisory board and guarantees, by law, that Planned Parenthood has a seat at the table. Romney’s plan established a MassHealth payment policy advisory board, and one member of the Board must be from Planned Parenthood. No pro-life organization is represented. (Chapter 58 Section 3 (q) Section 16M (a), http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw06/sl060058.htm )

(2) Provides Taxpayer-Funded Abortions . Abortions are covered in the Commonwealth Care program that Romney created as Governor. Under the program, abortions are available for a copay of $50. (Menu of Health Care Services: http://www.mass.gov/Qhic/docs/cc_benefits1220_pt234.pdf )

- Romney used his line-item veto authority to strike eight sections of the bill that he found objectionable, including the expansion of dental benefits to Medicaid recipients. Yet, he did not strike Planned Parenthood’s guaranteed Board representation and he did nothing to prohibit taxpayer-funded abortions as part of his plan. (”Romney’s Health Care Vetoes,” Associated Press, 4/12/06)

(3) Punitive Toward Small Businesses. Small Businesses are fined $295-per-employee if they do not provide health insurance coverage to employees. (Steve LeBlanc, “Mass Lawmakers Ok Mandatory Health Bill,” Associated Press, 4/5/06)

(4) Punitive Toward Individuals. Individuals not obtaining health insurance coverage lose their personal state tax exemption in 2007, which will cost them an estimated $219 in higher taxes. In 2008, uncovered individuals are assessed a fine equal to 50-percent of the cost of a standard insurance policy, which could be as much as $2,000. (Michael Tanner, “No Miracle In Massachusetts,” Cato Institute, 6/6/06; Steve LeBlanc, “Timing Of Health Care Law’s Penalties Could Pose Risk For Romney, MA,” Associated Press, 11/9/07; William C. Symonds, “In Massachusetts, Health Care for All?” Business Week, 4/4/06 )

Oh yeah, a persaonl favorite:

Then I suppose I should be honored by your attention. Have a nice day and you're right... I often don't read the Boston Phoenix and I suspect neither would you if you lived anywhere near Boston.

He's been sitting in the governor's mansion since January 2007 along with his lackeys in the state legislature which actually "fine tuned" it.

The big difference is McCain's opposition to ANWR, border control, etc. has screwed up the entire country. Romney's supporting role in Massachusetts socialized medicine has only screwed up the already screwed-up People's Commonwealth, and by possibly a lesser degree than it would have been screwed up without his supporting role.

When the sheeple demand socialized medicine, there are three options:

  1. Go along with it, or even try to act like you lead it.
  2. Try to blunt the consequences of such a stupid move.
  3. Fight it tooth and nail, even if such a fight is Quixotic and even if you get run over by the freight train of momentum.

Option #3 is certainly the most principled course and option #1 is the most cowardly. The Romney option (#2) lies somewhere in between as do most of even the best of our elected politicians.

Do I prefer a rare and principled kind of leader like Jesse Helms or Tom Coburn? Absolutely, when the electorate is smart enough to choose them.

But if I were stuck in the People's Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the probability of anyone less liberal getting elected than Romney is slim to none.
