Have you guys seen the video? There’s no other way to interpret it - McCain was clearly and obviously leaving the door open to higher payroll taxes. Whether he meant it or not (apparently not), whether it was a senior moment or a lapse of some kind or whatever, he said what he said in a rather extended conversation. He steadfastly refused to take tax increases off the table when given the chance. He has now repudiated the idea, but don’t try to deny the interview happened or that he was misunderstood.
