What McCain must really mean is that with a RAT Congress and himself as POTUS, your SS payroll taxes are likely to be raised. Like or not.

“McCain extends olive branch to Pelosi, Gore”

Says how he respects Pelosi and agrees with Gore’s 10-year plan for technologically surrendering us back to the Stone Age.

Is McCain stupid? What’s the alternative? Obama.

When someone says one thing one day and a different thing another day it's a flip-flop not being stupid.

Stupid would be like saying oh, you were head of a senate committee that you weren't.

The article raises some interesting points. The MSM is so busy lionizing Barry, that it is not taking McCain very seriously, which is a good thing for McCain. McCain has little focus and NO consistency. The people who do end up voting for President probably do not care if McCain is focused or consistent. Voting is simply a choice, do you vote for the anti-war Democrat or the pro-war Democrat? Pick a poison.

Is John McCain Stupid?

Isn't that a requirement to be running on the GOP ticket? After all, it reflects their image.

Or cheating on your wife and then leaving her for a new one.

President Bush and a majority Pubbie congress couldn’t reform SS immediately after winning the the ‘04 election, yet McCain will somehow get it done with a Dem congress? Please.

This flip flop is the first step in McCain’s eventual capitulation on SS. When his good buddies Nancy and Hillary and Teddy and Russ tell him to sign the bill raising SS taxes, he will sign the bill. And we conservatives aren’t going to get private accounts out of it. Nope, we hard-working conservatives who own our own businesses will get to foot the bill, and be told to suck it up by our “Republican” President.

What it means is that he is going after a Social Security solution in a big way. He will be facing a Democratic congress. If he walks in the door with a no tax increase promise, the Democrats have no way to compromise and no alternative but to vote no.

SS is a pay as you go system. In 2017, SS starts paying out more than it is taking in. Congress must do something besides just voting "no." The status quo is not a choice. The only question is what they do to solve the problem. When this happened in 1983, Reagan and Tip O'Neil struck a Faustian bargain that was supposed to make the system solvent for the next 75 years. Just 34 years later the problem will be back, only bigger. In 1983, they raised taxes and reduced benefits including raising the retirement age to 67 for full benefits.

With taxes on the table there is a very good chance that we will get privatized accounts. The Democrats will get a boost in the cap. With taxes off the table, we get nothing and they get nothing and the looming debt will go to the currency. The dollar will freefall.

With the Dems in control, they will keep the Ponzi scheme going by raising taxes and the retirement age. Private accounts will only be considered if they are added to the system and not carved out of the existing SS contributions. FYI: The cap goes up every year and it goes up faster than inflation. In 2000, it was $76K and today it is $102K.

Yes, he is trying to thread the needle but this is probably the most important issue of the campaign. The next President HAS to succeed on this or we will all pay a terrible price. He may not want an increase and he may fight it tooth and nail but he cannot take it completely off the table.

No, it is not the most important issue of the campaign because it can be solved relatively easily, i.e., raising the payroll tax and the retirement age to kick the can down the road again. Medicare/Medicaid is a far larger problem and can not be solved easily without lots of pain, political and fiscal.

The issue that can destroy this country with the stroke of a pen is amnesty. Obama and McCain both support it. They also both support a cap and trade system to address the manmade global warming hoax that will wreck our economy. Some choice.

Or cheating on your wife and then leaving her for a new one.

Once again apples and oranges. You can call him immoral, despicable or a hypocrite but not stupid for doing something like this. This topic is not about Newt anyways.

Now saying something like my tagline. Well.

I was talking about McCain, although Newt did the same thing.

McCain is stupid. Giving away your second-best issue (taxes) with a gaffe like this is stupid.

Not stupid. Dishonest, vain, power hungry, conniving, and... what’s the word for “lacks principles from which all other decisions come”?

In 2017, SS starts paying out more than it is taking in

I'm fully aware of the projections for SS and Medicare. The question is what to do. Any President who walks in and says no tax increase is dead in the water. By definition any solution is not in our favor. The best we can hope for is an opt out provision or partial privatization.

Medicare is a full scale train wreck but it cannot be dealt with first. Social Security will set the pattern and clear the deck for the harder decisions which will force themselves on us. Democrats will try to save Medicare by tax increases, means testing, paring benefits but eventually it will have to be a safety net for the poorest.

The battle over Medicare will come when income taxes start climbing above the 18-23% range.

Probably, the drunker the better.

The more conservative a person is, the more alcohol he or she will have to consume in order to achieve the desired state of "Values/Shmalues". This is not going to be easy but it might end up being fun.

McCain will raise taxes and anybody that thinks otherwise is duped. Same goes for SCOTUS judges. The will be approved by Kennedy, Schummer and the like.

Wake up, people.

What are the chances of McCain using Social Security as an excuse for amnesty? 12-40 million new legalized, forced contributors might be seen as a solution or am I wrong?

Any President who walks in and says no tax increase is dead in the water. By definition any solution is not in our favor. The best we can hope for is an opt out provision or partial privatization.

An opt out is not on the table and with a Dem controlled Congress, partial privatization is dead unless it is an add on. A tax increase coupled with an increase in the retirement age and some tinkering with the COLA and pension forumlae to reduce pensions for those at the higher end of the scale is the mostl likely solution given the political reality.

Medicare/Medicaid goes bust around 2013. It is in far worse shape than SS on an order of magnitude three times or more. The prescription drug program has resulted in an additional $8 trillion in unfunded liabilities. Congress might try to address SS first as a confidence building measure, but the most urgent is Medicare.

This election year sucks. We have a Republican Nominee who is very liberal. We have a Democratic Nominee who is not American...and these are our choices. So if Obamah makes president is he going to be sworn in on the Koran? Is he going to throw out the bible, and constitution to make everything towards Islam? Which in fact will rip our country apart from the inside out.

We survived Jimmy Carter...two Bushes and a whole lot of Clinton doing the Nasty in the Oral...I mean Oval Office. Now we ask ourselves can we really survive America becoming Islam? I don't like the candidates. And I don't know anyone in this case who does. But I would rather vote for an American...then some fake smiled Islamic leader who will turn our country into Little Jerusalem. We are Americans people. It is our vote that counts. We may not like it but we have the power to change it.

I didn't see a whole line of candidates trying to step up to the plate and be president. To be honest I think Hilary should have gotten the nomination versus Obamah and I don't like her either. Still would have been funny to see Liberal versus Liberal. Anyways.. My point is simple. As Americans we have to defend this country from those who try to destroy it. Thats what is important here.

By definition, SS aren’t taxes, they’re fees.

Not by any definition I've ever seen.
