I eat one hamburger a month. After my mother has her chemo treatment, we go to Steak and Shake for a Frisco Melt and a chocolate malt, the last meal she can eat for a few days due to nausea. Also it is fattening and she needs the extra calories...I don’t, but anything to get her to eat!

She loves DD coffee, stops every Sunday on her way to church for a plain cake donut and a cup of decaf. She’s a real dunker, she breaks her donut up and dunks it. :)

have a sizable section of the menu that isn’t all that healthy, I call that section “the good part”.

The healthy stuff is the only thing they really have going for them. Their sandwiches stink when compared to any other chain. If you want an unhealthy sub, hit quiznos or penn station. You'll find a lot better sandwiches there.

The only reason I go to Subway is that I can get a low fat/low cal sandwich fast.

And to tell you the truth, I think many of their customers go in there and order an Italian BMT thinking it's healthy because it's in a subway wrapper. With half the stuff on the menu, you could have just had a Big Mac instead.

I agree with everything you said. They were even running donut fundraisers for schools. One KK in Phoenix was located in a large shopping area with a number of sit-down restaurants, a huge multiplex theater, PetSmart, Target, OfficeMax, etc. and I would wonder how many people who go to that shopping area actually find it necessary to run in for a donut or twelve.

“Hey, after the movie, let’s go get some donuts!”

“I’m going to pass on the tiramisu and get a couple of glazed donuts over at KK.”

They were relying on spur-of-the-moment donut purchases, and apparently, those were few and far between. No wonder that particular location failed.

No Penn Stations and Quiznos really didn’t impress me the one time I gave them a shot, then they put singing rats in their commercials and I was done. The reality is fast food subs, like all other types of fast food, aren’t that good, the best fast food sub is at best a 6 on the scale. If I want a really good sandwich I go to the Sausage Deli pay twice as much but enjoy every bite.

I like the BMT and the Spicy Italian, really those are the only things I eat from Subway. All that low fat junk revolves around stuff I find tasteless. I was eating the BMTs and Spicy Italians before Subway found out some of their menu was healthy. And when the health food craze fades (which it is already) again those and the other non-healthy ones are going to be the sandwiches that keep the company going.

One of the KKs down here in Tucson was similarly placed, outside a struggling mall with a Target, a Home Depot and a 20-plex, they didn’t live long enough for the Office Depot. Of course to get there from home or work I had to pass at least 3 other places to buy KK doughnuts, not to mention places to buy other companies donuts.

The health food craze won’t fade because it is going to be driven by government. Overweight people are going to take the place of the smokers in the crosshairs.

You can bake your own cake doughnuts at home, and use less fattening ingredients. Of course, the flour will always be a major calorie load, but you can use less refined flour, and substitute "Lighter Bake" for some of the oil. And if there is egg, use the liquid egg substitute, which is usually mostly egg whites with a small amount of yolk, or just yellow coloring. It works fine in baking products. You could also substitute the Splenda Sugar Blend for the sweetener. It's a blend of sugar and Splenda, and you use 1/2 of the measure of sugar called for in the recipe.

Yeah, that's the ticket. You know I grind my own flour using a large rock to crush the wheat, that way it is extremely less refined than anything you can buy and makes very healthy meals. I hope I don't have to put the sarcasm tag on that one.

You know what? People of the US live longer than they ever have before, we eat the same as we always did, some of us get fat, just like always, some of us don't. The difference is not in what you eat but in how much you eat. Weight Watchers has proven that over and over again. You also have to move your arms and legs a certain amount each week in order to burn any excess calories you might consume in your daily eating.

Some people need special diets, most don't. When I want a donut I am going to buy one and eat it, period.

Many folks will make their own healthy stuff at home, Rosie, but you know there are those folks who run out of the house and don't have time to make breakfast.

Well, yeah, but when in the mood for something healthy on the run, I don't think "Hey, I'll hit up Dunkin Donuts!" I grab a yogurt and some fruit or something like that. And when I want a donut, I want the real thing, durn it. I'd rather have a full-fat, full-sugar donut once in a great while than some half-hearted imitation more frequently. Sorry...I'm feelin' ornery today. Particularly since I can't have that blueberry donut.

I have a cousin serving in Iraq who said Starbucks charges $4 a cup for coffee to the soldiers - I realize they are trying to make a profit but that’s harsh - I don’t waste money at starbucks but have bought the dunkin donuts coffee beans to make at home - really good flavor.

The health food craze is already going away, partly because of the government. The government is turning eating healthy food into proof sheephood. The government got to go after smokers because smoking was losing popularity and nobody hates smoke more than an ex-smoker, of which there are a lot. Former fat people aren’t that uptight about fatty food, they like being able to get healthy stuff, but they don’t really care what other people eat.

I've lost my taste for fast food doughnuts. They are just WAY too greasy for me. So that's why I like my homemade ones, so I can eat different flavor combinations, as well as not have a sticky film in my mouth.

Folks can eat healthy AND delicious, even if they don't have any weight to lose.

LOL! You want me to send you a Dunkin Blueberry Donut? Not sure how long it would last in the mail, though.

After we visited my Aunt, Uncle and cousins in RI back in 1972, we missed the Dunkin Boston Creme Donuts. Our cousin decided to come down to MS for college, so every time he flew home, and came back, we had him bring a couple dozen donuts with him. YUM!

SirKit got a Boston Creme donut yesterday morning, and I had one bite of it. It satisfied my taste buds without the greasy leftover taste.
