America Bored of Wholesome Obamas: Want To Sell Magazines? Make Him a Terrorist
The Business Sheet ^ | July 30, 2008 | Hilary Lewis

Barack Obama is usually quite good at selling magazines, boosting sales for titles ranging from Men's Vogue to Us Weekly to The New Yorker. But this week's wholesome cover photo of the Obama family was a bust for People, which sold fewer copies of this week's issue than its normal newsstand average.

Jossip: When Us Weekly slapped Barack and Michelle Obama on the cover, Janice Min saw her newsstand numbers spike: Some 1 million readers picked up the issue, compared to the usual 800,000 copies that it normally moves. Perhaps looking for its own brand of presidential success, People followed suit, putting the entire Obama clan on its cover.

Things did not go as well.

Preliminary scan data from the issue’s sales has just come in and we’re told People’s Obama cover moved just 1.3 million copies on the newsstand, lower than its usual 1.4-1.5 million copies

Interesting. Is Obama losing his luster with average American women?

It's rather ironic...it's liberal magazines that did pictures such as Obama and his wife dressed as terrorists in the White House in an attempt to paint is opponents as bigots, but they forgot that their own base is made up of the mindless sheeple who didn't understand the target of their barbs.

The rock star bubble is bursting. It’s classic supply and demand; as the market became saturated with Obama puff-pieces, people grew bored with him and demand dropped.

Now the vapid brainless “US” readers want to know who will be on American Idle next season and don’t give a rat’s a$$ about BHO; he’s old news.

Yep. Boredom with a candidate is not a good thing, especially this early in the general election,

Obama as All-American golden boy is so pervasive, it’s wallpaper. Maybe people appreciate a little originality and variety. Or perhaps they prefer what they know to be more truthful.

Sounds like they are queuing up the Larry Sinclair story. That will help him in the liberal polls and gay community, and give him some ‘Bill Clinton style’ credibility. He said he wanted to bring back credibilty and honor to the White House - must of meant a return to the Clinton administration antics. I hear Larry Sinclair may want an intern job at the White House.

I know that I threw away the magazine as soon as it arrived. Can’t stand People and was even less impressed with that cover story. I know all about the Obamas that I care to know.

I don’t know about that, but I do know that there’s a lot of resentment against 0bama in the gay community. A Rhode Island poster calling herself Gaspee was leading the gay charge against him on DU, wrote an eviscerating piece against him and said that she would never vote for him and couldn’t be inspired to in the coming months, no matter what, because of his ‘Second Coming’ persona.

Would they change their mind if Barry had a "coming out" announcement with the Larry Sinclair story (if true)? It has been well noted that the anti-smear tactics defending Barry on many other issues (birth cert, citizenship, religious affiliation, war) do not consider the Larry Sinclair issue a smear and are silent on the topic altogether.
