An earthquake is now rocking the Southern California area. (I'm near Dodger Stadium)
As I post this, the USGS has not yet determined the epicenter so click on the link above for the exact location and magnitude from the USGS.
Here are the maps for California and Los Angeles:

Here's the historical review of the last seven days:
Fire agencies are reporting no damages or injuries from the 11:42 a.m. quake that shook the region. The 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck about three miles southwest of Chino Hills rattled the area but San Bernardino County Fire officials and local fire agencies said no one has reported injuries or major damages.
Each agency has fielded about a dozen calls for service related to the quake, they said.
Of course hardly any phones are working.. There was an earlier report of damage in Pomona.
Isn’t Kent still on Channel 2 now? I remember he stood up while on the air reporting a Stevenson Ranch brushfire and said I’M GOING HOME TO MY PREGNANT WIFE! and took off
It's kinda like surfing. Only there's no water.
Some quakes have a longer “Feel” time....need someone more better in the know....
Thanks!
Looks like I’ll be coming home to fallen objects and scared cat.
What a disgusting thing to say. Some of us have family there.
Well see if the moderators put up with AHs like you here.
I am well aware of the adage that if you have to explain a joke, it wasn't very funny in the first place...
My comment was not saying that we would be better off. My comment was an (apparently weak) attempt at a joke, since it was a prediction that there would be such posts further down the thread. It is a fairly common joke formulation, the humor being in that we can expect people to say things so outrageous.
Obviously, not a very successful joke. I am sorry I was offensive.
If it had been at night, I would have felt it, as my bed rocks! (No pun intended!)
As it was, I was driving, and not paying attention. I hope there wasn’t too much damage anywhere, and that no one was hurt.
It’s still got a few decent spots .. knock on wood and hope they don’t burn up.
I will tell you what I was told. Someone in Fairbanks said it went on for four minutes and was a good ride. When they heard the epicenter was Anchorage they could not believe it.
Ever been to Valdez? The whole town was washed away, so they rebuilt it in a different location in case another tidal wave comes up the bay.
Definitely within damage territory. I had family in West LA and friends in Santa Monica--they both had lots of structural damage to their homes.
Aww, that's sweet. Good to hear that you and your family are okay.
Daughter in Westchester felt it as a 3, about 6 seconds, no damage. Just gave her a good scare.
Ok, I was confused. I was thinking 8.9, but it was really 6.9. duh... ;)
You know, when you have a number of freepers sitting there wondering for 20 seconds if the building above them is going to come down, they might not have the same sense of humor.
I wish I could say the same...
It won’t be pretty. But the reason we fare better than other earthquake prone countries is that we have very STRICT building codes. The most stringent in the country.
This was the strongest quake I have felt...and I was in the high Desert when the 7+ quake hit ...at Hector Mine...did damage to an overpass on the I-40 and knocked a train off the rails out in the desert....
Coast Guard helicopters are up, trolling the coastline.
