The democrats have screwed themselves. They drive the price of gas up and now whine when people drive less and bring in less tax revenue.

Last week, I can’t remember where I read it, but Congress was considering raising the gas tax. One way or the other, they will collect our money.

I love the Dems, they are friggin Machevelian.

We hate that you are driving, so we want prices higher. It is your fault you are killing the planet.

We want you to drive less so we will keep the gas taxes on and not allow drilling. It is your fault we are using up oil.

We are pissed you are not driving enough because you are eating into our projected tax revenues. It is your fault you are not driving enough.

There is NO WAY to be RIGHT with these a$$holes. And they are a$$holes with all the stupid sh1t spewing out of their mouths.

Classic case. The social engineers use taxation to change behavior...and voila! It changes behavior. Only in the meantime they’ve also used it for its other purpose, which is to raise revenue. And you can’t have both.

How does that work? I figure a percentage of $4.00 a gallon is far more than a percentage of $1.50 a gallon. Of government cared a whit about the stability of the country they “serve”, they would lower the tax on gas, AND on the oil companies as well! Not to mention dropping the injunctions against domestic drilling and refinery improvements! DRILL HERE! DRILL NOW!

The federal gas tax is a flat rate of 18.3 cents of every gallon sold. The tax is the same if gas is $4.00 or $1.50 per gallon.

But less driving also means less wear and tear on roads, and thus less need to spend the Highway Trust Fund.

That was the rationale for making the Federal motor fuel tax be by the gallon, rather than by price. And we can thank that Congress long ago that made that decision, rather than making the tax a percent of price as was done in Britain.

Right on, as usual. The classic case is the escalating tax on cigarettes.

I’m sorry about “ that means less revenue from gasoline taxes.” Hey guess what that is a road less travelled, so less wear and tear on the road surface. Somebody is pocketing a lot of gas tax money, the roads are in terrible shape. This is not Bush’s fault, every State and Federal Government road project is way over priced. I have to live within a budget, and so do they.

The federal tax is 18.4 cents PER GALLON. It is not a percentage of the price of gas per gallon.
Ir they were smart, and that is a big if, they wouild do everything to keep the price per gallon as low as possible so we bought more and they got more.
But they are blinded by their eco agenda and have screwed themselves.
So what is their solution to their screw up?
Steal some more money from us.

The fund faces a multi-billion-dollar shortfall next year because Americans are using less gas...

My. What a finely balanced system it is after all

May all of those who effed with it to make a quick buck or gain political points rot in the deepest recesses of Hell for all time.

9,600,000,000 miles less in a month

Lets just say 25 mpg, so ~384,000,000 gallons of gas.

Accord to a quick google, the federal tax on a gal of gas is 18.4 cents.

So that is a $70,656,000 drop in a single month that the Federal Gov’t didn't gouge of Americans.

I feel really bad about the Feds not getting their money....NOT!

There is NO WAY to be RIGHT with these a$$holes.

They apply the same logic to the mortgage situation.

Mortgage companies ask, "How will you pay this back?"
Jackson, Sharpton and others rail that minorities are being discriminated against.

Now the race baiters say that the evil white men are responsible for this mess and what are they gonna do about it?

So, we the taxpayers, are facing huge tax increases to pay for the trillions in defaulted mortgages that Gubmint uses Freddy and Fanny to buy up...because nobody wants them.

It boggles the mind.

Problem is, they have any number of ways of "correcting" this little problem. All of them are gonna cost you.

You are forgetting one component.

It was Congress that twisted banks’ arms to give loans to people that never would have qualified for them. They pretty much told the banks they needed to do this because otherwise it was racist/discriminatory, and Jackson and Sharpton would have ammo to fuel their bogus charges.

Hypothetically they want us all to go to clean technology, say electric cars for instance. The roads will still have to be maintained but since no more fuel will be sold where will the cash come from? My guess is that people will be charged a federal electric car and road maintenance tax on their electric bills. I am sure it is coming some day.
