As Senator Barack Obama turns to the choice of his running mate, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has emerged as one of the campaigns potential finalists, sources familiar with conversations in Richmond and in Chicago said.
Kaine, an early Obama supporter whose biography nicely dovetails with the Illinois senators, "ranks very, very high on the short list," said a source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine.
Kaine "is getting a critical examination," the source said.

...just a bad hair day.
Or Governor Schaefer from Maryland.
.....ssshhhhhhh. This is a great pick...
YESSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!
kind of looks like a cross between Jack Nicholson and one of the actors in one of the Police Academy movies, a hardline academy commander as I recall.....
a nobody with goofy hair, excellent choice for the lord obama.
plus if the Kaine/Hussein ticket loses he would be damaged goods and eaiser to beat.
Ooo...tip of the hat for that one!
Unlike Obama, Kaine speaks fluent Spanish. He could be an asset in the Hispanic community without having the polarizing effect of a Richardson.
“Kaine very, very high on VP shortlist.”
“N.H. very, very high on sweet NoCal bud.”
Interesting. Seems like Obama’s polled well with Hispanics so far, they haven’t shown much loyalty to McCain.
Obama will be our next president. He will carry California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Delaware, Maine and possibly North Carolina.
Well then, his lack of qualifications makes him a perfect fit for the megalomaniac narcissist.
In my opinion, you should never pick for VP a person who would never have been considered for President.
That would rule out Kaine, and most of the people the Democrats mention. It would also rule out Jindal and Palin in my view, because neither could reasonably be said to be prepared to step into the Presidency.
Schaefer endorsed Bush 41 over Clinton in 1992.
Sounds like an anesthetic.
Looks like Barry Hussein is going for the white voter if he picks this as VP. I thought sure it would be Richardson.
Kaine on Fox is sounding like he does not want the job.
My original comment was meant sarcastically, but by the same criteria, the Dems chose a presidential candidate who never should have been considered for President. If it weren't for his race, and the across-the-board media support he's gotten, he wouldn't be the candidate.
I also can't imagine Obama's ego sharing the stage with anyone of any significance, or as the NY Times once liked to say -- anyone with "gravitas."
