Police found right-wing political books, brass knuckles, empty shotgun shell boxes and a handgun in the Powell home of a man who said he attacked a church in order to kill liberals "who are ruining the country," court records show.

We all know what we’d like to do to those liberal bastards, but we don’t do it, because it’s immoral and illegal. It’s not the guy’s sentiments that are necessarily at fault, but his actions. And we conservatives are mature enough to know that he’s got to suffer for them.

I do not care if this lunatic killer admired Sean Hannity or Michael Savage. I would care if Sean Hannity or Michael Savage admired HIM.

An author can’t control who likes his books, only who he praises himself. I think anyone who writes a popular book must have some fans he would want nothing to do with.

Exactly the right response (usual self-defense caveats included).

Audacity of Hope by Borat Insane How to Destroy a Nation by George Soros and Karl Marx

I'm not buying the right-wing fundamentalist Christian angle, as the guy apparently did not value the Word or even Christ himself, and seems to have favored more left-leaning literature, i.e., Hannity and O'Reilly.

This sounds like a man hell-bent on ideology (or politics) in the place of religion.

One more comparison between Obama and Borat, and I'll have to unleash the "Barack" graphic. ;)

So when will this story be linked with calls for the Fairness Doctrine and references to “Hate Radio”?

After reading a Universalist Unitarian website it sounds more like a social liberal club then a religion or something that should be classified as a church....

Well, from what I've learned from Universalist Unitarian church goers, this is their preferred way to attend regularly, and for the clergy in said church to continue to keep those pledges and collection plates filled.

The Universalist Unitarian Church parking lot in Raleigh, NC is always filled to capacity each Sunday with cars having Obama stickers on 'em.

A church that coddles illegals and homos is not my idea of a church but merely a gathering of misguided fruitcakes. Of course that in no way supports this guy's deranged actions.

Wonder if they find Free Republic on his home computer?

Hannity is left leaning?

Well which direction would YOU have to lean to embrace Rudy Giuliani? (and then give him wet kisses everyday.)

If one is willing to take that step, there are much better places to take it than a church, even a Unitarian Universalist Church, in Tennessee.

Unitarians do not support 2nd amendment rights, as a rule. I'm very glad some were armed and could stop the shooter, nonetheless.

They tackled him as he tried to reload. They were not armed. If the guy who first confronted him as he came into the church *had been* armed, he might still be alive, and the lady who died almost certainly would be. The injured would not be injured. Even if the first guy only slowed him down, and others had been armed, the toll would have been much lower, except the toll of attackers, which would stand at 1.

Officers recovered 76 shells for a 12-gauge, semiautomatic shotgun inside the church. Among those shells were three spent rounds. He had carried the shotgun inside the church in a guitar case, Owen said.

Whoa, three shots fired resulting in two killed and 6 more wounded? (There was one additional wounded by being trampled or something during the melee)

This nut bag might lean toward conservatism but he will be condemned to death by every single conservative. You won't find one conservative who will fight to save this guy's life like the liberals do for terrorist and cop killers.

Since when do liberals go to Church they have little need for or belief in God.

It's not required to believe in God to be a member in good standing, or apparently even a minister, in that Church. They have members who align with Christianity, Judism, Islam, Hindu, Buddist and other traditions, but with the part about "God" and "the Devine" missing or optional. See their (national) Website

I'll give 'em this. They call *themselves* liberals, and mean it. They are pro gay, pro choice, anti arms rights and anti military (although they'd say anti-war).

I perfectly agree with you in re "had someone been armed". Perfectly.

I had heard via radio news that the gunman HAD been halted by "armed" people at the church.

Perhaps it was my assumption they meant "carrying". Thanks for setting me straight.
