Besides, I was commenting on the possiblity, and the fact that an objective strategist said that is what was necessary, base upon his reading of the electorate.
I like Dick Morris (sometimes) but I would not call him objective. That’s not necessarily bad, I can’t think of any strategist who is objective, left, center or right.
He does hope and try to support what he considers moderate Republicans.
That said, he has the Clintons’ number.
I think that the money issues are getting overlooked where conservatives and democrats agree (to a suprising extent, if looking as a partisan R or D).
But Powell doesn’t carry the numbers to support Morris’ point.
He might have done so in 2000 but he has had an impact on his own political fortunes.
