Shaking Down Philanthropies

...As with so many marginal ideas, this one is coming out of California. A proposed bill there would have required foundations with more than $250 million in assets to report the racial, gender and sexual orientation of their board members, staffs and grantees. The bill's sponsors recently agreed to drop the issue in return for a political payoff of millions of dollars from 10 of the state's biggest charities...

And none of it could be done without the willing assistance of the MSM.

Render the MSM conservative or even “neutral”, if that is possible, and these actions would all disappear.

Yes, it is a shakedown, and not at all surprising coming out of CA. In the 90s, SF-Tom Ammiano was demanding that all 5013c's become "transparent" to SF. And I kept watch. Watching the "investigations" ripple up and down the state.

Now that government monies are strapped, the Democrats know exactly WHICH non-profits and philanthropies they are shaking down first.

From article you posted:

When we last wrote about this topic ("The Color of Charity," Feb. 4), we quoted a letter by Paul Brest, president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, California's largest foundation, to the state assembly: "[Our] fundamental operating principle is to direct our resources to organizations that have the promise of making the greatest difference in achieving [philanthropic] goals. Thus, we do not focus on the racial composition of our grantees, but rather on how to achieve measurable impact in improving the lives of the communities that our grant recipients serve." This is still an eloquent summary of the problems with diversity initiatives. Alas, Mr. Brest apparently didn't have the courage of his convictions and the Hewlett Foundation was one of the signatories to this "compromise."

I wonder how much Tides Foundations ("Founded by Drummond Pike in 1976, Tides is a nonprofit that promotes social justice, broadly shared economic opportunity, robust democracy and sustainable ...") is going to "granted".

Greenlining org ("the Greenlining Institute's mission is to empower communities of color and other disadvantaged groups through multi-ethnic economic and leadership .") has been a thorn in the side of freedom in CA for many years.

Greenlining has been working with the CPUC for a number of years.

Greenlining has its fingers in all things "money", and in order to accomplish an agenda. They've been primarily responsible throughout CA, for forcing banks to lend to "minority" and "low-income" folks.

Greenlining is also a "term" used in PUSH/Rainbow Coalition events and activities.

Greenlining's usual and biggest targets are Banks and Lending Firms.

And now they are shaking down Philanthropists and Non-Profits.

The right to free association in the constitution is a long lost concept.

Oh, it isn't lost. It just only applies to government-defined groups of people now.

Sad, but true.
How long will it be before they force charities to include a percentage of radical muslims or terrorists? It's a mighty slippery slope...

PS.. love your tagline.

On a brighter note, Oregon, Nevada and Arizona might see an uptick in the number of charities headquartered there. :)

PS.. love your tagline.

Hehehe thanks.

Yess....

Okay, so the Dems forced banks and lending firms to loan to those whose eligibility weren't up to par. And then the foreclosures took place.

Here's what chafes my hide... when the Dems were shaking down the government to do these things, at least the banks were getting "something" in return. Now that banks are going through troubles, the Dems are shaking down PRIVATE MONIES to accomplish their so-called "out reach programs". Essentially, philanthropists are being forced to BUY homes/etc for "low income" and "minorities".

Guess "Habitat for Humanity" is de rigeur in this age....

Not really. The money almost never reaches the problem, just the "problem solvers"...

His wife's income as an administrator at the not-for-profit University of Chicago Hospitals nearly tripled to $316,962, from $121,910.

In 2005, she was also elected to the board of directors of west suburban Westchester-based TreeHouse Foods, which calls itself the nation's largest pickle and pepper supplier. For that, she received $12,000 and $33,000 from a subsidiary.

She was promoted to the hospitals' vice president for community and external affairs in March. Obama said that his wife, who, like him, is a Harvard law school graduate, was deserving of the promotion and raise.

Her previous position was less demanding, he said, and because his Senate campaign had ended and she had more time to devote to her work, she was more marketable with her educational background and other strengths.

''You can't fault her for being smarter and better qualified for all sorts of jobs than I am,'' he said.

Their reportable charitable giving reached $77,315, with $25,000 for the Illinois Reading Council; $20,000 for the Michelle Lee Fund, a literacy program; $16,000 for CARE, including an AIDS project in Obama's late father's native Kenya, $5,000 to the Trinity United Church of Christ and $11,315 for ''miscellaneous'' organized charities.

You are exactly right: The money reaches the grifters, not those who are alleged to “need it”. You see, the grifters have a greater need for the “green” than the homeless, the starving, the lame.

Nor are those expensive cars which "we, the peasants" aren't supposed to drive because they aren't "green" enough.

Being Green, to the leaders of Dems, means "money".

Indeed. I voted GWB twice. I held my nose. He has done as expected. He is "compassionate". As always, it is OPM*, and on a grander scale than ever before. I don't blame the Dims. They have not always been the problem. (for example: see Zell Miller)

I wish we could get a mulligan at the Republican convention. Unfortunately the Pubbies now have no balls. Blame it on the tofu! I live in WV most of the time, and they have Bobby Byrd, and Rockyfeller. I do enjoy driving the Robert Byrd Highway where it's been completed. It's a marvel of engineering...

*OPM = other people's money
