GLASS HOUSES, AKA, Tale of Two Houses
snopes ^ | 2007 | unknown

LOOK OVER THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING TWO HOUSES AND SEE IF YOU CAN TELL WHICH BELONGS TO AN ENVIRONMENTALIST.

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest.

An interesting comparison of ecomaniac Gore's and supposed -to-be-energy hog Bush's homes.

This Snopes article was emailed to me by a friend. The email contained photos of the two houses, but since I'm a technodummy who doesn't know how to post photos the pictures are not transferred from the article. Suffice it to say that AlGore’s mansion makes Bush's home look like a mid-priced tract house by comparison.

Don't do as I do, do as I say.

Exactly! Gore, the ecofreak gang's # 1 boy, is an outright fraud.

Just based on what I have read, Edward's mansion is as far above Gore's mansion on the scale of grandiosity as Gore's is above Bush's ranch home.

Of course they are all three multimillionaires who are accustomed to living on a monetary plateau that few of us worker bees are able to even comprehend. I don't begrudge any of them their millions, it's the rank hypocrisy of Gore and Edwards on environment issues that gets under my skin.

And their homes are just the tip of the iceberg, together they probably burn more fossil fuel in their jet planes in a year's time than most of us will burn in our entire lives, even if we all drove 9 mpg Hummers and set our home's thermostats at 65 in summer and 80 in winter.

al gore arrives in a gulfstream jet

a Gulfstream jet holds 41,300 lbs of fuel.
jet fuel weighs about 6.75 lbs per gallon on a standard day
so the aircraft holds about 6,120 gallons of fuel
my car gets 22 MPG average
so one tankful of private jet fuel for Al would take my car 134,640 miles
the earth is about 24,900 miles around
so one tankful of fuel for Al Gore in a private jet would take my car around the world 5 and a half times
BTW I have had the car since 1999 and I have just under 130,000 miles on the car
so one tankful of jet fuel for Al to fly around and tell us to use less fuel could run my car for 9 YEARS!!!!
hippocrite

That's what my friend's email said, it fits perfectly.
