Rabies for sure. Well, it's just my opinion, but I'll eat my hat if the fox doesn't come back positive for rabies.

I saw my Grandad shoot a rabid fox when I was a kid.
No humans were injured L0L

The man tried to shoot the fox with a .22-caliber rifle, firing seven times. He killed the animal but also accidentally shot the woman in the lower right leg. He may have had better luck using the rifle as a club.
No doubt the fox and his wife were moving around quite a bit in the struggle.
A baseball bat may have been a better choice of weapon or perhaps a shotgun (being sure to aim well away from the ladys leg). A fox having lost a good deal of its hind quarters is likely to loose consciousness.

For sure rabies. I wonder how far away the husband was when he fired? In such close quarters situation, the fox wouldn't be large enough to place the womans life at immediate risk. Either shoot from point blank with the muzzle practically on the animal or, don't shoot.
A garden tool or some kind of club can quickly dispatch a rabid animal in such situation. Of course, I'm speaking from experience, I had an aunt that was in her garden when attacked by a rabid fox. She killed it with a garden hoe without being harmed.

Rabies for sure.Yep. Your basic fox doesn't want to hang around gnawing a woman's leg, especially while guns are going off.

I remember an old old old Dennis the Menace cartoon..
Mrs Jones, wearing her fox stole, comes to visit. Dennis answers the door and yells to his mom...
Mom! You know Mrs Jones who you always say is putting on the dog? Well, now she is wearing it!

I wonder if one of the shots passed through the fox and into the women's leg.

“A couple at the address had spotted an unknown animal in their yard and went out to investigate”
I can just hear the conversation between this two very smart people. Woman: Oh honey, isn't it just soooo cute. Man: Yeah, yeah, right. Woman: Get the camera honey. I want to get a picture of me and it. Man: Yes dear. Woman: Hurry, it may leave if you don't get off the couch and get the camera. Man: Yes dear. Woman: Isn't it so cute. Let me try to pet it and while I do, you get the picture. Honey, it's growling at me. Honey, honey!!!!! It's chasing me around the yard. Honey, honey do something!!!!!!! Man: Be right back, I'll get my gun. Woman: Hurry, hurry!!!! Man: Okay honey try to stand still while I aim. Man: Honey don't move. Gun fired repeatedly. Man: Damn, I missed. Woman: Screaming at the top of her lungs. Stop shooting. You hit me. Man: You didn't stop moving so I could aim correctly. Woman: It's biting me, HONEY!!!!! Man: Don't move, shot fired, there I got it. Woman: The fox is stuck to my leg. Man: Stay calm and I'll call 911. Now, I could be wrong but chances are this is exactly as it happened.

we don’t know how accurate this story is. This might just be that biased fox news that the liberals are always whining about.

If fox news can’t get the fox news story straight we’re all doomed!

The foxes in those photos look more alive than those methed out models.

I think he would have been better off putting the end of the barrel on the ass end of the fox. I can't blame the wife if she was jumping around trying to shake off the crazy fox that had her in a death grip.

If I see an animal in the yard acting weird I am *not* going out there without my gun to start with! Go back and fetch it? No way. In fact, if I see a fox or a skunk in the daytime, it will probably be dead if I can get a bead on it. (the skunks are the rabid ones in this county)

fired seven shots...probably killed the fox with the first round.

Maybe his wife was a fox too.
