Try the stretch between Junction and El Paso, Texas. Over 400 miles of NOTHING but a few scrub brush and tumbleweeds. That would be over eight hours of driving - taking a few breaks in the small towns out there.

Mr. RightField and I drove that stretch last March. Once when I changed screens on the Garmin to see how many miles we still had to go, I noticed that the maximum speed of our car had hit 96.4 mph.

Naturally, good wife that I am, I inquired of Mr. RightField, "When did THAT happen?"

He answered sweetly, "When you were napping, dear. Now go back to sleep."
