THOU SHALT NOT KILL
THOU SHALT NOT STEAL (confiscatory tax rates, welfare)
THOU SHALT NOT LIE (bear false witness/perjury)

OK, OK, never mind.

How about just “Thou shalt keepeth a low profile, for a year.”

Does THAT work for you?

***Under the proposal, which is awaiting the council’s vote pending the conclusion of a public hearing, a person charged with a crime such as robbery or assault would be banned from downtown Eugene for 90 days. Convicted criminals will not be allowed downtown for one year.***

CHARGED with a crime, but not found guilty, and you are still BANNED? I doubt the constitutionality of that. Even in Oregon.

I don’t know about sanctuary (officially), but Eugene is a land-of-fruits-and-nuts (think “Berkeley, CA”), and lots and lots of pot.

Under the proposal... a person charged with a crime such as robbery or assault would be banned from downtown Eugene for 90 days.

Is it Constitutional to punish someone whose has been arrested, but not convicted?

A good comment because Animal House was filmed in Eugene and Springfield!

Actually, it's constitutionally permissible to "ban" somebody from a particular city or county.

Trial judges have been doing it to career criminals in Georgia for years.

At some point, either the U.S. Supremes or the GA Supremes decided that it WASN'T permissible to ban somebody from the entire state . . . so the judges creatively started banning career criminals from 158 counties (GA has 159) with the exception being Dade County in the far NW corner of the state -- it's separated from the rest of Georgia by a large mountain range and really looks to Chattanooga TN.

The folks in Chattanooga are pretty sore but can't do much about it.

LOL! Thats it. Ban the criminals.

I have an idea: Why not just ban crime?
That will solve everything!

All we need is a new law that makes crime illegal ...

so they want the criminals to hang out in the suburbs and in the country?.....right...

this is the insanity that so many years of leftist wimpy ideology has wrought....they truely think that by making a law the criminals will obey.....shhhhh....THATS WHY THEY'RE CRIMINALS IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Exclusion of offenders should be left up to the municipal court's decision, lawyers of the American Civil Liberties Union said in a public hearing on the ordinance on Monday.

ACLU is becoming the Lawyers union, their job is to keep lawyers fully employed and make sure that all decisions are made by judges with the assistance of lawyers. If you have not been granted the Title of Nobility by being accepted into The Bar, you are second class and should shut-up and let the enlightened elite rule over you.
