It still sickens me that some media punk thought he'd make this into another Me Lie massacre. Thank God he's not succeeding, but boy has he screwed up a bunch of lives of excellent human beings anyway!!!
Wowza!!
Awesome!
Here's a squid Ooh rah!!!
Gees, where have ya been. I noticed.
Okay!!!
:)Great news.
God bless you for your steadfast prayers, fatima! And please thank your circle!
I will:)
I’m confused. What’s the connection between Traitor Murtha and the Sgt. Winnick case?
There have been so many cases that I think people are mixing them up.
The Sgt Winnick case has nothing to do with Haditha and Murtha. Unless people are thinking in broader terms about Murtha’s politicization (if I got that word right) of alleged troop misconduct. The worldwide outcry about Haditha has created more of a “when in doubt, prosecute” environment. That’s the only connection.
Good reply. AFAIK, that is right on the money.
Congratulations Sgt Winnick, and thanks to General Helland for not throwing the prosecution a consolation prize with that BS dereliction charge!!
In any event, the update is HERE.
30 October 2008
The MEU departed the Republic of the Philippines this morning after a successful bilateral exercise with the Philippine Marine Corps and a three day liberty period at the port of Subic Bay and Olongapo City. I am very proud of all of the Marines and Sailors of the MEU for their performance over the last two weeks. In addition to the bilateral military training that we accomplished, I believe that we achieved a level of cohesion, camaraderie and esprit d'corps with our Philippine Marine Corps counterparts that will not soon be forgotten.
The exercise ended with a couple of very significant events. The MEU conducted a combined arms live fire exercise (CALFEX) with our Philippine Marine Corps counterparts on the 26th of October at Crow Valley. This was the culminating event for BLT 3/1 and the Philippine Marine Ready Force battalion that incorporated most of the weapons systems in the MEU's Ground Combat Element inventory and was supported by our Aviation Combat Element. The CALFEX assault progressed from north to south over a 10 kilometer area of Crow Valley in order to seize four different objectives. It included a helicopter-borne assault, a mechanized assault using our Amphibious Assault Vehicles, an attack by our Combined Anti-Armor Teams (CAAT) and Light Armored Vehicle Platoon, and a final assault on the 4th objective utilizing 81mm mortars, AV-8 and F/A-18 attack aircraft, and AH-1 Cobra and UH-1 Huey helicopter gunships. It was an impressive demonstration of the combined arms combat power of the MEU. Throughout the CALFEX, I had the privilege of accompanying the Deputy Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps, Brigadier General Natalio Ecarma III, as we observed the entire event from an observation post (OP) on a high hill overlooking the valley. Brigadier General Ecarma is a former director of the Philippine Marine Corps scout/sniper school so it was no surprise that he wanted to try out a sniper rifle from the BLT's scout/sniper platoon.
Sergeant John Winnick, a BLT scout/sniper from San Diego, CA, assisted BGen Ecarma in firing a few rounds from the .50 caliber Sasser rifle. Sgt Winnick graduated from MCRD San Diego in November of 2002 and incredibly is on his 5th deployment. He deployed four times to Iraq, twice as a machine gunner and twice as a scout/sniper. He was accompanied on the hill by Sergeant Alexander Wazenkewitz. Sgt "Waz" is from New Iberia, LA, the "hot sauce capital of the world." Rounding out the sniper teams on the hill were Corporal Shawn Johnson, of Loveland, CO and Corporal Bruce Baxter of American Fork, UT. They both deployed to Iraq previously with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines.

Thanks for tbe update, Red!
Thanks for the update, Red. This is really great news !!
What, I’m not on your ping list anymore?
That 50 cal is a SASR (special application scoped rifle) and I hear they are so loud (even with ear plugs) that they aren’t much fun to shoot. It’s great to see that Sgt. Winnick brushed off JAG like dandruff and is back firmly on his feet.
FRegards,
LH
Mea mucho culpa. The only other thing to say is...
