The area north of the Arctic Circle has an estimated 90 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and 1,670 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas, the U.S. Geological Survey announced Wednesday.
The Arctic accounts for about 13 percent of the world's undiscovered oil and 30 percent of the undiscovered natural gas, the USGS reported.
The three provinces of West Siberian Basin, the East Barents Basins and Arctic Alaska are said to hold more than 70 percent of the undiscovered natural gas.

Steal a nozzle from a gas station and beat him with it.
Since dinosaurs were cold-blooded animals, would that not imply that the Arctic ice cap has evolved over millenia?
Two points to also consider:
Petroleum Geology typically considers the predominate source of oil from things like algae and other biologicals in ocean sediment.
The North Coast of Alaska also has dinosaurs' fossil discoveries.
I am baffled. He he happen to say why?
My husband is a victim of “green-itis”. He subscribes to all kinds of enviornmental magazines and publications. He said that Republicans (Bush and Cheney) along with their buddies is the “oil business” are ruining the PLANET. The whole planet.
He wants to be “green”. He started walking everywhere. Turns off all the fans in the house even when it is smoldering outside. The “green” dementia is slowly but surely taking its toll. I am all for conservation, but he is manical about it.
Sounds like he's just been telling you he's a libertarian. Libertarianism is all about individual rights. Drilling in the Artic has nothing to do with individual rights, and in fact, NOT allowing someone to drill would violate libertarian ideals. HINT: He's really a green or a liberal.
Not liberal but DEFINITELY GREEN.
The problem is that McCain, the RNC and the oil companies can’t seem to explain to the general public that drilling for oil not only brings US oil to US refiners, but it CREEATES JOBS TOO!! Here in DFW the Barnet Shale is making folks millionaires, for their mineral rights, and 100,000 jobs in 5 counties. I hear that Shreveport, LA is looking at similar numbers. Why can’t the key players that want drilling sell that idea?
PS - Why are mirrors in the desert better than rigs in the Artic?
Continental Drift. But while I believe in continental drift, etc., I think the Norwegians put a pretty good ding into it with their theory that oil, instead, bubbles up from the mantle-crust boundary: I remember that they found the North Sea reserves by speculating it’d be where oil bubbled up, while all the paleontologists thought they were crazy.
Agree that Texas benefits from the jobs oil and gas creates, the taxes the industry pays and, of course, the cheaper energy supplied for us.
Maybe the best strategy is to let them all go to hell in a handbasket while we keep increasing our standards of living.
A good business climate, too.

Thanks to both of you...good info.
All North Sea reserves are sourced from Sedimentary Rock.
No oil in commercial production has been discovered by searching for aboitic oil.
The attempts to search for aboitic sourced oil by the Russians and a few others have produced cash from gullible governments and investors, but no oil.
