For the record, I’m the chairman of the AIP.
To: EternalVigilance
I’m sure this is a dumb question, but is the AIP different than just being registered ‘independent’?

Americas Independent Party is a conservative pro-life political party that stands for constitutionally limited government, national sovereignty, secure borders, economic liberty, and a Reaganesque peace through strength national defense and foreign policy. Americas Independent Party endorses or nominates candidates for public office based on a proven adherence to constitutional principle, not mere party labels. Sounds like what the Republican Party USE to be...

AIP.. stands for ...
a Reaganesque peace through strength national defense and foreign policy Where exactly is this in the platform on the AIP home page?
In the area of national defense, wherein do you differ from the constitution party, the latter of which appears isolationist?

How about some history. George Wallace was the candidate of the AIP in 1968. It then devolved into mostly old Burchers and nuts.
I see some things haven’t changed. They have nominated the modern day Harold Stassen in Alan “name your election” Keyes. God, who is the VEEP? Duncan Hunter.
Now back to more serious conversations.

Now let me get this straight.... A group of independents uniting into a party? Isn’t that already a contradiction of terms?

I have narrowed down my choices,
but unfortunately neither Mr. Obama, nor Mr. McCain, nor Mr. Keyes made the cut. Please respect that.
I admire your loyalty, though, and very best of luck to you. I certainly have more in common with you and folks like you than I do with McCainiacs, Bushbots, RINOs and mod/lib sycophants.

Hi all - I've been a FReeper for many years, although I haven't posted much during Bush presidency. I was amongst those cheering Alan Keyes and Jim Robinson on the same stage at FreeRepublic's first national event -- the March for Justice on the Mall in Washington DC during Clinton impeachment days. I was delighted when I read last October that Dr. Keyes had joined the field of primary candidates. I didn't imagine at the time that my already high regard for Alan Keyes could increase. But that's what has happened as I've participated in the Keyes campaign's twice-weekly public "town hall"-style conference calls and other activities.
I can not imagine voting for John McCain. I completely support Dr. Keyes' decision to leave the Republican Party and continue to be a candidate. I think he'll be a great President, and am happy to do what I can to help him get elected this year. I've switched my own voter registration here in Maryland to a new party called Maryland Independent Party. If this party is successful in obtaining 10,000 signatures on a petition currently being circulated, I expect Dr. Keyes will be our nominee and his name will be on the ballot for President here, too, in November. And if no better candidate for Congress steps forward in my District, I will run.
It's been a real pleasure to get to know many fine folks across the country who are helping get America's Independent Party started up. I agree with Alan Keyes that these are extraordinary times, and that folks who understand this ought to ask themselves whether personal extraordinary action is warranted.
I encourage all of good will to check out the platform at www.selfgovernment.us and to help get Alan Keyes on the ballot in as many states as possible. The ballot access petition for Maryland is due August 4 -- and we could sure use your help on this. Everybody has skills and knowledge that can be applied to good effect in this effort. In these days of instant mass communication, it's as easy to persuade tens of millions as it is tens. There's plenty of time for Alan Keyes to win this election.
Best wishes,
Steve Schulin,
Candidate for Congress - Maryland's 4th District
