LOS ANGELES Authorities are offering a $50,000 for information in the drive-by shooting death of a U.S. Navy reservist outside an El Sereno liquor store in 2007.

Jesus Guevara, 24, a U.S. Navy reservist, was walking from the liquor store at 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2007 toward his parked car when someone fired at him from a dark-colored, mid-size car, wounding him in the back, police said. He died three hours later at a hospital.

"It's not fair to lose him, to not have him around," Guevara's aunt, Maria Corona said. "We miss him terribly every day.... The irresponsible coward that did this has to come forward. They need to know that they took a life that was the engine that moved this family."

Detectives say they don't have a motive for the shooting. The reward is being offered by the Los Angeles City Council for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

Guevara served in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic for four years. When he returned to civilian life as a reservist, he worked for a steel company in South Gate.

Bet: 1) gang bangers, 2) MS-13 thinking he was a Mexican, 3)African-American gang member thinking he was from El Salvador, 4) variations on the same theme.

Something similar happened to a friend’s son when he returned from Iraq. He left a club of some sort, was headed for his car and heard a shot. He was being pursued, ran ahead and was shot in the hip with a 9 mm round. He made it to the doorway of a business to escape with his life. 3 Obama supporters were later rounded up and jailed. My soldier friend says it was safer in Iraq. This is a true story freepers.

I live just a few minutes from El Sereno, and one of the last kinds of people you see around there are black gang members. Plenty of Hispanic ones, though. More than you can shake several dozen bundles of sticks at.
