Emergency Petition To Congress:
“Lift The Offshore Drilling Ban
Before Congress’ Summer Recess”

The gas crisis threatens to cripple our economy because our nation’s leaders have failed to move America toward energy independence. The first vital step is to expand our domestic capacity. The President has lifted the Executive Order banning additional offshore oil drilling, but Congress continues to drag its feet.

Grassfire is launching this National Petition demanding that Congress lift the legislative and funding ban on Offshore Oil Drilling BEFORE the August recess.

No Summer Holiday For Congress Unless The Offshore Drilling Ban Is Lifted!
Congress’ month-long summer recess is scheduled to begin August 9. Join tens of thousands of citizens who are demanding action by Congress BEFORE they break for summer. In fact, Grassfire is asking members of Congress to PLEDGE to stay in session this summer until the life on offshore drilling ban is passed.

Petitions will be delivered everyday to Republican and Democratic leadership in Congress. Sign today and demand that the ban is lifted before the Summer Recess.

The Petition States:

As a concerned citizen, I am outraged that Congress is dragging its feet on the first vital step to U.S. energy independence -- increasing domestic oil production. I am signing this Citizen Petition calling on Congress to lift the federal moratorium on offshore drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf before the scheduled August recess (August 9). In addition, I am calling on members of Congress to PLEDGE to stay in session this summer until the ban is lifted.

I also call on Congress to aggressively pursue legislation for energy independence that centers on: (check all that apply)

NO ANWR BAN: Removing restrictions to exploration and production in currently prohibited areas in Northern Alaska such as ANWR
OIL AND SHALE: Lifting barriers to Oil Shale exploration and production.
NATURAL GAS: Expand exploration and production of America’s vast natural gas resource and use this resource to reduce our foreign dependence.
NUCLEAR: Significantly expanding our domestic nuclear energy capacity by building more nuclear power plants.
MORE REFINING: Expanding our domestic refining capability, thereby freeing the U.S. to import less refined energy product.

When did they leave? I thought they had the housing bill to work on now that President Bush has dropped his objection to it. (And they would work on it even if he didn’t.)

Why work at the Countries bussiness, when they can do what ever they want, especially with elections coming up this fall. They havew to make face time with us the “peasents” back home. We need to see the lords of the manor sometimes./sarc

Does an individual senator have any power to keep the Senate in session?

“Does an individual senator have any power to keep the Senate in session?”

Yep, Reid. Don’t hold your breath.
