This Governor is in the habit of rolling out Judicial appointments in big batches. Until this week, his last batch of new Judges was announced back in May -- twenty of them. I have made no bones about that fact that it is galling to me that the Governor, who was elected with all of the support of the Republican Party, loves to appoint registrants of the party of Barack Obama to the bench. In that May batch, it was 9 Republicans and 8 Democrats. It is a very sad situation for GOP donors and activists that we have to settle with a bare majority of Judicial appointments from our Republican Governor. It truly makes you scratch your head..
Well, actually, we have now set a new low for GOP appointments -- less than 50%. Monday the Governor announced 30 new appointees to Judicial posts around Californian. You can see all of them here.
We think that it is fair to assume that someone's party registration is a good way to generalize their beliefs about the proper role of government in our society -- Republicans espousing less government, Democrats more. What was the partisan breakdown of Judicial appointments this week? Read it and weep...
TOTAL APPOINTED: 30
16 DEMOCRATS
12 REPUBLICANS
PLUS TWO DECLINE TO STATE
Here they are by County:
Alameda County - 1 Republican, 1 Democrat Butte County - A Democrat Contra Costa County - 1 Republican Fresno County - 1 Republican, 1 DTS Los Angeles County - 4 Democrats* Madera County - A Republican Orange County - A Republican* Riverside County - 2 Republicans, 1 Democrat San Diego County - 5 Republicans, 3 Democrats Solano County - 2 Democrats, 1 DTS Sonoma County - A Democrat Stanislaus County - 2 Democrats Ventura County - A Democrat
I am actually embarrassed to have a Governor that I supported for re-election place so many Democrats into these extremely important posts. Then mostly disappointed.
What aRnie has done for this state.. imagine
It’s not too late , GoP.. You can disown buffoons like this or pay the price at the poll.
It always amazes me when posters here say: “He may be a liberal RINO, but at least he will appoint conservative judges!”
It will be interesting to see what office Schwartzenegger vies for next.
That’s what you get with you sleep with a Kennedy — literally.
And that’s what we’ll get with McCain. I remember all the same arguments that are being made for McCain being made for Arnold.
BUSTAMANTE! Booga booga!
I am praying for a miracle to occur at the Republican convention. Demorat convention too, for that matter.
Are we saying a true Dem would have appointed more than 12 Republican judges?
It will be interesting to see what office Schwartzenegger vies for next.
How about office door stop?.....
Only Arnoiled Schwartzenreneger and Juan McGore have the vulgar urge to "reach across the isle" and be "post-partisan" as in post-partum depression!!! They disgust me!!! I hold them both in contempt!!!
Now let's see ya "devil's advocate" that one, there "666!!!"
In defense of McCain, I would point out that almost half of Arnold's appointments are Republicans. How many Republican judges would have been appointed by any Democrat that ran against Arnold?
The difference is that the US Supreme Court is radically more important to the well-being of our nation than the Supreme Court of the People's Republik of Kalifornia.
If two or four liberals decide to retire from the US Supreme Court and McCain is only able to replace half of them with "moderates", it will be a very big win.
Like his much admired Ruth Bader?
“In defense of McCain, I would point out that almost half of Arnold’s appointments are Republicans. How many Republican judges would have been appointed by any Democrat that ran against Arnold?”
I wasn’t specifically thinking of McCain. Giuliani actually came to mind when I typed that. His appointment record is atrocious. His supporters used the same arguments posed here when they were trying to convince the conservative base that Giuliani’s ideology and well documented record were irrelevant.
Having an R after their name doesn’t magically transform them into someone who appoints conservative judges. We may get a few more Republican judges, but what kind of Republican judges? Will they be less like Roberts & Alito and more in the mold of Specter, Chafee & Snowe? I suspect that if you look at Arnold’s Republican appointments, they would be solidly RINO.
Sorry, but I just think that we need to have better expectations. The “He sucks less” argument has little appeal to me.
“Electable”
“Lesser of two evils”

“evil” is still “evil” . :-}
“.....it will be a very big win.”
No, it will be a moderate loss.
