Guitar Player Economics 101

Economic newscaster Larry Kudlow refers to the last twenty-five years of economic prosperity as the “greatest story never told.” He’s dead-on right on this one.

America, and the entire world for that matter, have witnessed in the previous 25 years the greatest period of prosperity in human history. The result of this has been that more wealth and upgraded quality of life has been created during this period than at any time in recorded history. Where has this story been on the nightly news or on the editorial pages of our newspapers?

A major reason for this tremendous prosperity over the last 25 years is largely attributed to tax cuts, which Senator Obama wants to rescind and reverse. Instead of continuing with this historic growth by continuing President Bush’s tax cuts or even providing more economic stimulus by lowering taxes even further and reducing the size of the federal government (which I refer to as Fedzilla), Senator Obama wants to feed Fedzilla by raising taxes. This is simply weird and dangerous.

Class and economic warfare is the typical liberal platform: soak the rich, reward the slovenly. What socialist liberals like Obama do not tell you is that the rich already pay the vast amount of taxes. The top one percent of all wage earners already pay roughly 40% of all income taxes. The bottom 50% of wage earners contribute roughly five percent. If I hear the term "fair share" again I think I will slap somebody silly.

agree.

but you can’t reason with some of these people.

i have tried. i have a female friend that sees always only gloom.

she watches tv all day.

imo, there’s nothing more destructive to thinking than daytime tv.

They're busy with sports and murders. This only confirms what I read recently in Peter Kreeft's book, "Before I go." To paraphrase, "sure, sometimes you have to look in the toilet bowl, but why would you want to do that all day?" He has a point. I haven't watched TV news programs in years, but I think I'm going to cut down on my Fox-watching as well.

Oh yeah, our economy’s soound as a pound. As long as you don’t pay attention to unfunded liabilities and debt. No problem.

The baby boomer's have largely had nothing but sunshine for their whole lives. They do not realize what a change there was in the 50’s ... 60’s.

To most it is a given to have sunshine all the time. The harsh reality of the same kind of thinking that brought ENRON down i.e.(creative bookkeeping) just moved on into other businesses. Like the savings and loans of the late 70’s and early 80’s, it was backed by a government agency FDIC. Same with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's now.

“Make hay while the sun shines” as the saying goes. Get rich quick schemes, manipulate Wall Street , etc.
House of cards bound to come down and a good number did get rich quick. Having the government involved in businesses is not a good idea ever. It creates false reality.

I'm an older baby-boomer and I agree completely with what you have said.

The biggest challenge for people of my era was to somehow avoid getting killed in VietNam. Next to that was the need to avoid killing ourselves while partying or driving.

It doesn't take much of an historian to see what an incredible lifetime of opportunity most of us have had.
