Missippy Ping.

Supertalk Mississippi Radio has dropped Michael Savage and replaced him with Dennis Miller.

Savage had a rant about autism last week that crossed the line. His complaint, probably valid, was (marginally) about over-diagnosis. His delivery, very Savage, was flawed. He attacked the victims in his typical name-calling fashion rather than directing his anger at the “system” that is creating the problem.

I don’t care much for “tiradio” (tirade radio) such as Savage delivers so this is a win for me. My drive home habit of listening to Sirius radio will be altered to catch some of the Dennis Miller show.

I just wish Savage wouldn't beat up on his screener or engineer. For years on KSFO his nice wife Janet screened the calls, and he'd beat up on her, too. She moved on; now she's finance manager or something at the energy drink Rockstar, Inc. with son, Russ (who is a completely stable and wonderful human being).

With the way Cal adademics treated Savage, you'd think that he'd learn from his exerience and end up treating his own subordinates with a moducum of civility.

Alas, he did not. Instead, he passed the venom along with zest; he bats people around, and he's short with them, and insulting, and makes life difficult for them --he turns the insult beam on high, and cackling, reduces them to a puddle.

He expects complete loyalty, in spite of everything, and he doesn't give one scintilla of it.

Let's say Savage BBQ's for you a bit; he grills some stuff, and you eat it?

He'll resent you for that for WEEKS --probably years.

Of course I'm above pointing out to you his years of skinny-dippping, and hanging out with Timothy O'Leary and Larry.

Or that they have a hand-written letter from Savage to Allen Ginsberg, in which Mike penned his desire to puncture Ginsberg's bowel (apparently some kind of homo-erotic reference).

Insult enough of your own loyal supporters, Mike, and THEN when you really NEED them to save your sorry bacon they might not be there for you, see, Mr. brilliant Ph.D....?

Yea it's just so hard for you to work the little knob on your radio huh Lormand, free speech is an endangered species these days, the forces restricting it are the same forces out to get Savage as he is one of the few remaining who will continue to challenge sacred and apparently PC annointed 'sensitive' subjects like this one.

Replacing Savage with the likes of Dennis Miller, bwahahahahahahahahaha!

I wish more stations would dump Savage. The man is an embarrassment and does nothing productive to promote conservative values

Savage is on the number of stations he is on because of the audience that he attracts, it's business, I seriously doubt Dennis Miller will attract the same audience, Mississippi, nah I know he won't.

Hopefully the Savage listeners down there will scream to high heaven about this the way I know I would if they took him off the air in my area for something so stupid.

Regarding XM, paying to listen to the radio is crazy in my opinion.

It's not crazy if you can't pick up terrestrial radio

What's more, he's no conservative. Exactly right. What's more, he's no conservative. But he's a psychological case study, and that's why I listen

As a staunch conservative I don't have the time to listen to 'psychological case studies', I listen because he IS conservative, it would go against my grain if it were otherwise.

I consider all liberals beside being mentally disordered psychological case studies, but I wouldn't waste a second listening to any of their talk show hosts spew their tripe, my system would undergo major upheaval.

About three years back on a cool Autumn eve, I sat on my back porch and listened to Savage — an evening when it seemed two thirds of the show was his reading from the Old Testament. I kept expecting him to go to something else, but he kept reading section after section from Isaiah and Jeremiah. If I could have known he would fill up so much time with it, I would have recorded the full show and transcribed his commentary.

He was reading along, one or two verses at a time, stopping, and giving application of those verses. He wasn't teaching the direct doctrine of the verses, nor did he intend to. But his application was non the less very rich. If it hadn't been for his accent (and the commercials) the substance could have actually been taken for some out of a back woods revival meeting in the Smokey Mountains.

I didn't agree with every point he made, but then, I might not agree with every point made in a Smokey Mountain revival meeting. I was impressed with fact that he read those passages with great reverence. He never said anything that would bring any doubt as to the grand authority of those Scriptures, nor did any application he made contradict sound doctrine within them.

Actually, Savage, as crude as he can be, shows more respect for the Divine than does Rush Limbaugh. When using the name of God, no one is more arrogant and full of himself than Rush (” . . . with talent on loan from Gaaawwwd,” and all that nonsense).

Oh, dang! No more encore presentations!

Maybe they are dropping Savage because the guy shows up for work maybe once a week.

Then it should be even easier to apologize for saying 99% of autistic kids are brats, idiots, and cry babies, if that wasn’t even what he really meant to say.

I think driving him off the air over this is overkill but honestly, I can’t blame the parents of these kids who are feeling stabbed in the back by him. Many parents of kids with disabilities are conservatives, and being told that their kids are brats and would not be retarded if they were better fathers must be a very shocking thing to hear. Maybe there’s a misdiagnosis problem and maybe there isn’t— some people made some thought provoking points in an earlier thread about this— but there obviously is also a large group of autistic children out there who are profoundly retarded and need constant supervision just to not hurt themselves. Taking one look at one of them, you can immediately see the difference between them and badly behaved children from disfunctional families. There is no comparison. Implying that autism doesn’t exist at all is just a slap in the face to the parents who are taking loving care of disabled children. As a pro-life woman I find the continuing devaluation of disabled children a very disturbing trend and am disappointed to hear conservative people saying in public that these are just bad kids with bad parents.

If that’s not what he meant then all he has to do is “man up” and apologize. I’ve got no interest in burning him at the stake but if he didn’t mean that 99% of autistic kids are not really retarded and are just badly behaved brats, then he should take it back. Everybody says the wrong thing sometimes.

Savage didn’t make fun of children. He believes they are being damage by a false diagnosis

‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’ “

Savage only appears to be crossing the line because the country keeps moving leftward and becoming a new Soviet style 'UNION' where only 'approved unoffensive' speech will be acceptable.

Savage won't change because he speaks from the heart and on principle and he will not compromise that just to be in lockstep to the mandates of today's PC culture.

He's basically accomplished everything in radio that he needs to and at his age he can now afford to retire so he has nothing really to lose if he wants to go down fighting on principle.

"It's not crazy if you can't pick up terrestrial radio"

I stand corrected then. I take it for granted since I have always lived near big cities.

I have never advocated that he be fired, but only that my local station play Levin live, and put Weiner on at 11PM. That way the nutballs that are still hitting the bong at that time can better enjoy him.

CatherinePPP, when people disagree with you they are not stabbing you in the back.

That kind of thinking is liberal “hate crime” stuff.

Can you agree that some children are being prescribed drugs that they should not take?

RE: "saying 99% of autistic kids are brats, idiots, and cry babies . . . wasn’t even what he really meant to say"

But he did mean to say that about kids who have been diagnosed as autistic but ARE NOT autistic.

He is not alone about exposing this scam. It nets the parents a government check (in too many cases) but it brands the kids as something that they are not.

See also Thomas Sowell on autism

BTW, if you have a way to listen to his show of 21 July or you happen to tune in the 22 July show -- it's about 20 minutes before air time now -- you will get answers to any doubts that you may have.

I don’t think they even have drugs for autism. There’s no medical treatment for it as far as I know. Everyone keeps talking about Ritalin but that’s what they give to hyperactive kids I think. I agree that stuff is over prescribed but I think people are really getting autism confused with other things if they keep talking about medication. Autistic kids are retarded and they need constant supervision because they do things like bang their heads into the wall and scratch themselves till they bleed. The ones who feel stabbed in the back are their parents, who are doing the loving and pro-life work of raising a disabled child, to say that 99% of them are just badly behaved. They’re no more badly behaved than a Down’s Syndrome child is. They’re retarded and they can’t help it.

There are a lot of conservative parents of children with disabilities and no wonder they’re upset to hear conservatives saying things like that, or keep confusing their children with hyperactive or disfunctional kids, or saying the problem is Ritalin when their kids are not the ones who get prescribed that. Of course it’s not a hate crime to say what he wants, but if he insults his own audience, is it any surprise that they don’t want to listen to him anymore? He could go on the air and say Christians are morons too if he wanted but would he have any listeners left at the end of the day? No, and he would deserve it. Saying retarded kids are brats and their fathers are doing a bad job was a bad decision and it insulted a lot of conservative families. He really should just apologize to them. If all he said was “some children are being prescribed drugs that they should not take” then I don’t think he would have even one listener complaining about that.

I am very very happy to have a listenable show following O’Reilly.

Miller is not my first choice (that would be Beck, followed by Levin and Bennett) but it’s a nice light entertaining take on things which I enjoy.

Savage was flat out agony.

If I were listing what shows I could stand to listen to I’d have a hard time choosing whether to rank Savage behind the likes of Al Franken.
