And all this fawning over a guy who has accomplished.... what??? Getting elected to the Senate? What has he done to deserve such worship?
What we now call the media was once called the press. When the media was the press, they had poeple that worked for them that were called reporters. Reporters used to go out and see what was happening, and report on it. They were usually somewhat objective. Now, the press calls itself the media, reporters have become journalists, reports have become features, and stories have become narratives.
Obama is to the journalists a feature. He is a star. They are reporting on him as they would Princess Diana or Brittney Spears. His narrative is fascinating to the first generation of people to have been raised entirely on color television. Essentially, he is a black man, never mind that he is multiracial, and he aspires to the highest office in the land, which makes for a really good story. Nothing else matters. It is most of all a future movie script, based on a true story, that hasn't happened yet. But they want it to happen, they want it bad, because it is a feature narrative that they get to contribute to.
