Romney moves up as Potential McCain VP
NPR ^ | July 20 | Ron Elving

Posted on 07/20/2008 9:07:44 AM PDT by ConservativeMan55

Once upon a time, people who wanted to be president were not expected to admit it in public. This mask of false indifference had to be dropped when the rise of primaries forced candidates to campaign actively for the office.

I just feel that Romney is the best available option out there.

Then we just have a difference of opinion, without which we'd have nothing to talk about.

The incentive is not having Barack Huessein Obama in the White House!

Because he's a liberal, right? But here's the rub - I don't vote for liberals no matter what party happens to be listed behind their name. So that automatically excludes McCain as well.

We finally agree on something.

McCain and hopefully McCain/Romney are going to win without their vote because the majority 90% of the Republican base, the majority of independents and at least 20% of the democrat base is going to vote for them.

I like your optimism. I think your prediction that 20% of the Democrats will vote for a McCain/Romney ticket is pretty ambitious but if Obama continues with the gaffes you may end up being on the money here.

Romney's a god damn'd liberal through and through

He was and still has some liberal tendencies, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and take his positives over his negatives, some of them which are perceived.

Unlike McCain, he has reached out to conservatives during the primaries. If he has converted to being pro-life then he shouldn't be criticized for it. Isn't that's what the pro-life movement is all about? Helping people see the light and realizing abortion is wrong?

The majority of Independents and 20% of the Democrats are going to vote for McCain?

Care to post us a link verifying that information? That’s not what most all the major polls are saying.

Is that Romney and his senior wife?

Willard wants to be John's Señor wife.

It doesn't matter what Mitt's politics are/were/whatever...he'll be parroting McCain as VP. It's all about appearances now...Mitt makes McCain look about 100 years old....and I don't think McCain wants to contend with that. I'd say Joementum has a better chance...he's been been begging for it...following McCain around like a puppy.

He brings no excitement, interest, or value to McCain’s ticket

Are you kidding. He was virtually the only candidate not talking about gloom-and-doom. He is a very positive, forward-looking person.

he wasn’t even popular within the republican base during the primaries

Yeah, because you had Huckster taking all of the naive faith-based voters and giving McCain a firewall.

McCain should ask Jindal to be his running mate.

Which will neutralize Obama's lack of experience.

Imagine with a Dim President would do in the White House with no Congressional reign?

Exactly why we will not vote for the Dim with the R after his name. If McCain wins, the Dims go along because it is their agenda, and the Repugs go along because he is in their party. How much more unanimous can it get? Him choosing Obama as a running mate?

"Jim" doesn't need you looking out for him.

It's common courtesy to include the poster you mention, that's all.

He owns the place and I find him very quotable when calling liberals like Romney what they are.

I don't disagree with Jim on his thoughts about Romney. I am just making a logical case as to why Romney should be VP. There is a dearth of GOP VP nominees out there. Why can't you understand that?

So basically your saying there is no difference between McCain and Obama?

Oh that’s fresh!

The incentive is not having Barack Huessein Obama in the White House!

The cost is too high.

The alternative being a Bolshevik who's been feeding at the public trough for his entire life? Is his some sort of a test?

If you think Carter made a mess of things, you can't imagine what Obama will do. ABO -- anyone/anything but Obama.

There is a dearth of GOP VP nominees out there. Why can't you understand that?

There are many choices out there who are more conservative than Romney. Many, many.

You know what's funny? John McCain is more conservative than Romney and that's saying a lot.

Then the GOP has failed.

So what's Plan B?

Obviously, I'm not voting for Barr or the libertarians. Conservatives who feel that McCain should lose and let Obama take the blame for disasters are not thinking critically.

Yeah, they're all in the House or Senate.

McCain is not going to choose another Washington insider.
