I think the administration and McCain are playing a bit of rope-a-dope here, criticizing Obama but not asking the Germans to stop him from doing it.

The obvious newsreel comparisons will be to the Gipper's "tear down this wall" speech and Kennedy's "I'm a jelly donut" speech. They will diminish the Obamessiah by comparison and remind people that at one time Democrats were hawks on national security and Republicans overcame McGovern Dems to win the Cold War. I.e., you can't trust the MoveOn Democrats with national security. All good for McCain.

This may well go down as a big mistake by Obamessiah.

We are electing a president of the United States, not a president of the world, or even the "free" world (whatever "free world" means in 2008).

I despise the increasing use of the notion that the U.S. president is anything more than our nation's chief executive. Under our Constitution, our presidency is not even the first branch of government, Congress is.
