Macaroni and cheese, probably. Cheap. Tastes good. Lots of calories. There is even a “macaroni and cheese index”: The economy is tanking the purchase of macaroni and cheese goes up.

One of the problems of being poor is that you don’t buy good food like fruits and veggies. You buy processed stuff like mac ‘n cheese.

This is very true, the cheap foods are starchy and unhealthy. But there is a limit to how much you need to eat of that food. Also, they have some dirt somewhere I assume, or some pots to grow things in. We work hard in our garden every year, like bust butt hard, but we get “free” vegetables from it. All for the cost of seed, which is about a $20 investment.

Nonsense, make food stamps only available for milk, eggs, rice and dried beans and they would all have jobs tomorrow.
