BTW, I do not think that Tony had life insurance. There is a trust fund set up to help the kids with their education.

If there's any advice I can give to young people with children...no matter how healthy you think you are get adequate insurance now to care for your family in the event of your death. You can buy term insurance for very little money...if you wait until you know you need it you won't be able to buy it. I was one of those guys who thought I was never going to die. I had insurance at work and thought that was enough. Then I got a cancer diagnosis and now life insurance is impossible to buy. Don't put it off.

Tony’s mother died of this very same cancer when he was 17. I don’t know if insurance companies ask you for family history or not.

You are so correct about buying life insurance. In 1978 my 33 year old husband died instantly from a heart attack leaving me with a young son and no life insurance to help us. I had to get a bank loan to pay for his funeral - had to use my car as collateral. After 2 weeks off, I had to return to work just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. I’m not complaining about working (I’ve never been without employment) but it drastically changed our lifestyle without my late husbands salary and I really didn’t have a breather to grieve. It was a very rough period in my life.

I don’t have children and am not married (yet) but I have a policy and you are so right. Then I had a medical scare and it was lots of question marks as the doctors didn’t have a clue what was going on. (At one point they coudln’t rule out liver cancer.)

I was very comfortable on a spiritual level with moving on but the best feeling was knowing I had things in good shape for my mom and other family and friends.

Your words hopefully will help others.
