Romney Makes His VP Case

Posted by Michael Scherer | Comments (41) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: “I’m appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact.” This may not have been a joke.

Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

[See video at link]

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

BOTTOM LINE:

Romney: “Make all the promises you have to...

Guilty

Not Guilty

There is but one logical choice.

The "Warrior and the Woman" (will Win BIG
attacting a large fraction of the pro-Hillary frustrated Democrat women.)

Romney is just about the only one McCain can win with.

Obfuscating, ignoring and misdirected responses to Mitt’s real record, from his own mouth and first hand sources (is that self slander?) just excuses his insufficiencies as a Conservative...

So what’s your point?

Checkmate?

You said you never said 90 days. Well, you were right. Someone looked it up for me:

And you know full well from being told repeatedly, that I KNOW THE MAN. I've known him THIRTEEN YEARS. Have you ? Did you volunteer (in even the smallest way ?) for his campaign for him in his home state ? I did, and I was on my vacation. Do you think all of this nonsense is going to somehow change that ? Do you think we'll forget what he did in abandoning his state and his party. All facts of record ? It's like you guys live in bizarro world, because nearly everything you say about him runs COUNTER to the facts. I feel like that poor lady who got molested by Clinton in his office... just leaving the room smiling and shaking my head in absolute shock at how UNREAL it all is.

Link to original thread.

Now, unless you're going to claim that you were on an extended vacation most vacations last what, 1-2 weeks? So, I apparently was being kind when I came up with the 90 day scenario. Summer vacation...summer...90 days...you know. So, chances are, you weren't in MA for even that long a time. But since you won't disclose just how long it was, we can only infer that your alleged expertise comes from a very brief and limited stay in MA in 1994.

I know, I know...follow the money...

“I think Romney is a big asset mainly because he is a very articulate and able point man on economic issues, which is issue #1 in the election, now that we have effectively Won in Iraq.”

It matters little what you or I think of Romney. It’s how the general-election-public perceives him; which will be as nothing more, nothing additional, nothing of greater point of interest than a better-speaking version of McCain. It will have the interest-excitement-adding power of zilch, in the public eye.

Well then, why don't you run to daddy and tell him how those mean old Romney-ites are expressing their opinions in open forum again and demand that they be banned? You've done it before. Can't have the other side's opinion be heard now, can we?

And given the fact that I have given you people every opportunity to present proof that Romney bought all of his support in the primaries and none of you have had the guts to do so (of course, how could you since none exists?), it is certainly understandable why you would want us banned. FR would be a lot more comfortable for you if you didn't have to present any proof of your wild accusations, wouldn't it? So, for now, you'll just have to stick to name calling and empty threats while hiding behind your belief that the owner of the site fully supports you, your beliefs and your actions.

Jim, this is what I was talking about. Do you want FR to be a group of sycophantic toadies who agree with everything you say, or can other Conservatives voice their opinions as well? Is this site about Conservativism or you? Inquiring minds would like to know.

If you were honest, you would admit that the majority of the name calling has been by Romney’s supporters.

ROTFLMAO to the tenth power!!!!!!

Man RQ, you are worth your weight in entertainment value!

Did I ping Jim with my post to you, no...

Have I ever asked you Mitt lovers to be banned, never, hell I don't even hit the abuse button, I am man I can take care of my own damn self. I wish I could say the same for your brood...

And who is this “you people” are you talking about, Conservatives? Must be, they are the majority of this board from what I have seen over the years. You should join us.

And where have I ever said anything about Mitt buying off anyone. He had enough sycophants and blind followers just hanging out.

As far as what the site owner believes, I think it was pretty clear when it comes to Mitt, as expressed in his response to you. (I so love the classics...)

So get a grip

Rock meet dog, dog make yelp...

Finally, you went and did some research. It was an extended/business vacation. I never specified the time. I was there for the crucial period up through election day.

And you still can’t be honest enough to admit just how long that trip was.
