I, a middle aged white guy, was pulled over a year or so ago for “running a stop sign” where there was no stop sign. It didn’t take long for me to realize the two cops weres trying to egg me into losing my cool and saying/doing something stupid so they could cuff me, probably so they would have probable cause to do a drug search of my vehicle (they wouldn’t have found anything.) I stayed calm and they eventually “let me off with a warning” for the nonexistent stop sign.
I no longer consider the police to be on my side, and in any future encounters with them, I’ll be respectful, but wary.
That happened to me once. The cops followed me a couple blocks to my mother-in-law's house where I was dropping off my baby daughter. A couple of young rookies out to harass anyone. I got into their face and told them they were full of crap. Also that I was enroute to a meeting with police commanders and captains, and that they would hear of this (I was a civilian working for the PD), and named names. They went pale, got back into their car and left pronto. There's good cops, and unfortunately some bad eggs.
That is sound advice for everyone.
Oh, they’d have “found” something if they wanted to........
I lost respect for cops a long time ago when they started to be used by the state as tax collectors. Ever been on the interstate highway system on Labor Day or 4th of July weekend? Giving tickets to out-of staters even when they’re not speeding is a favorite passtime for cops (they know out-of-staters will never be able to show up in court). The traffic system is the most rife of conflicts of interest, with the money shaken down from you used to pay the cops, prosecutor, and judges, where you are guilty until proven innocent (the cop’s word is enough evidence to pronounce you guilty). Until this system is reformed, and ticket quotas no longer be required of cops, I will have nothing but contempt for all cops, even if only some of them abuse their power. I am sorry if this offends cops or cop families on this thread, but this is the truth.
Same here, I was stopped for running a stop sign 10 feet from my driveway. I had been in my car all of 20 seconds before I was stopped. Utterly ridiculous.
I said 2 words the whole time (no and yes) to questions they asked. Learned a long time ago NOT to arque with armed men on the side of the road.
I will be fighting this ticket by the way. Absolutely impossible to run the sign like they claim.
I am working in Artesia NM right now and it is the home of the TSA and BP training center. I overhead some trainees talking at a restaurant and learned the reason I get stopped so often is tinted windows. I have to park my car and drive for long periods in the sun.
