The question is, (I believe), why was Chad Hardy excommunicated?
the article says he was excommunicated because he had not attended church in 6 years or paid tithe. He had also not worn the garment they get in the Temple. Lastly he was asked to quit publishing a calendar making light of something they take very seriously, missionaries. Apparently the ex-missionaries were not excommunicated. I have my doubts that a person who doesn't attend church for 6 years cares if they make him a non-member. His faith is not important to him, why is it so important to the press?

It's not a matter of faith, it's cult antics with beefcake.

maybe they thought that some dimwit would now like to make a female version of bare chested Mormons....no doubt, Hefner is planning an expose' to embaress the church as we speak....
but in the end, the Mormons can do whatever they dang well please, just like Catholics can, and its nobody's right to try to run their church unless it involved criminality....

You know, it's OK for chicks to post "I'd hit it" pics. Just sayin', as I don't want anybody to think The Institute is sexist or anything. (posts must be humorous, not just a bunch of chicks giggling like schoolgirls over the latest metrosexual pin-up
boy fag to be valid, and judgment of naughty teachers is reserved to male members of The Institute).

Aw, com’mon, lesser. She was just havin’ fun. The pics on the calendar were of chests only, for goodness sake. Nothing porn or R rated. Just some young male chests. Lighten up hunny.

I know! That was the point! My point was that you gals can join in on the fun as long as you don't usurp our authority as the ultimate arbiters in passing judgment on naughty teachers, and respect our authoritay.
Please come up with your own original shopped pics though, as ours are sacred property of The Institute and like-mined groups on other boards.

Am I the only one that can appreciate some hair on a man? Seems like most all of them are shaved nowadays.
Now I guess I'm showing my age...lol

Sure.
I was just trying to figure out what about the pictures was offensive to them to cause a move as excommunication.

From the Deseret News article published July 14, 2008 (after Hardy was excommunicated).
Calendar maker ousted by LDS Regional church leaders who called the meeting raised three concerns with Hardy during the meeting: the calendar and his failure to keep some church covenants. Hardy has been inactive in the LDS Church for the past six years. He no longer pays tithing or wears the religious undergarments considered sacred. In an interview last week, Hardy said he had always struggled to fit in and live up to the expectations of membership.
Hardy provided the information. The LDS church doesn't provide details of excommunications, it is a private issue for the ex-member. Hardy wasn't excommunicated for just creating the calendar, there were 2 other reasons.
And, any church, religion, organization has the right to create the rules for belonging. In the case of the calendar, we are taught to be modest. I realize by today's standards, a man's bare chest isn't all that racy. However, Hardy chose to have the men wear their missionary suits, along with their nametags that bear their names (Elder ), along with the name of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Some have tried to excuse him. He does have his agency to choose. And he reaps the consequences of his actions. Plus, he said that he hadn't gone to church in six year or followed its teachings. The only reason he stayed was because of his parents and his heritage.

The creator of the beefcake calendar on my desk that has struck some of my male colleagues speechless....
So, it's okay for women to have pictures of bare-chested men at work, but if I or one of my male colleagues even thinks about bringing in a calender with girls in bikinis or lingerie, we're fired for sexual harassment.
