SI.com has learned that for the first time in history, a major presidential candidate may sponsor a race car in NASCAR's premier series. According to sources, Barack Obama's campaign is in talks to become the primary sponsor of BAM Racing's No. 49 Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3.

Obama will also be present for a second private fundraiser on July 30 in Miami, in which team owners Beth Ann and Tony Morgenthau -- staunch Republicans -- will give the Democrat an opportunity to spread his message of change. Randy Moss and Fergie are among the celebrities confirmed to be a part of that fundraiser in support of the candidate and his venture into NASCAR.

It's wrong to hope for a wreck, so I'll just stop at hoping for a blown engine coming around the first turn.
Or, more appropriately for a Democrat, running out of gas because of poor planning.

If this is not a joke it’s shows he’s unfit to command. I hope Tony puts him into the wall (or Wallace’s nephew does).

The only problem is that the car won’t track straight, it’ll turn left, then right, then left again.

Obama trying to get votes at a NASCAR event is like John McCain going after the LaRaza vote. Oh, wait....... never mind.

The 49 car generally doesn’t make the field. Too bad Obummer did make the field.

When Bill Clinton was president he attended a NARCAR event.
The story goes that none of the drivers wanted to drive him around the track.
Mark Martin finally agreed to do it since Mark lives in Arkansas and has a business there.
My personal opinion is that liberals are not always welcomed by NASCAR fans and drivers to say the least.
Hopefully his car will blow an engine on the first lap.

SI.com has learned that for the first time in history, a major presidential candidate may sponsor a race car in NASCAR's premier series.Sports Illustrated probably just overheard a conversation and misunderstood when Obama said the he "intended to play the race card".
