The measles outbreak in Tucson has been traced to a traveler from SWITZERLAND. Not Mexico. I doubt that traveler was the slightest bit Mexican. As far as the spreading of the infection, it could be that some nonimmunized immigrants were the ones to contract the disease here after exposure. Not sure about that either.

Generally, measles is brought back by kids of yuppies, who go overseas, but avoid immunizing their kids because of the perceived dangers of inoculation. They are safe in the US (well, until yuppies take their uninoculated kids overseas, who catch something and bring it back to spread the joy) because of herd immunity.

Call it liberal upper-middle class superstition. They are really little different than Muslims in Niger that refused to get their kids inoculated against polio because the polio vaccine was supposed to be a European plot to sterilize Muslims.
