What was supposed to be a quiet protest turned into a scene this afternoon. It all began with some local moveon.org members who wanted to get the word out about alternative fuels.
The traffic on Civic Center Drive during rush hour Wednesday muffled the words of protesters, but that didn't stop them from voicing their opinions.
Moveon.org member Lyle Abrahamson organized the protest in Rochester for their national event, "A Day of Action for an Oil-Free President."
Lyle Abrahamson says, "We're out here showing our support for Obama because we believe that he truly will bring what we call change."
Bruce Kaskubar of the Olmsted County Republican Party says, "We heard that moveon.org was going to be showing up here at Kwik Trip today cause they want to impune John McCain as a puppet of big oil. We don't happen to believe that that's the case."
Abrahamson says America needs a president who will look for alternative forms of energy so we can be a country that doesn't have to rely on oil. The other side disagrees.
Kaskubar says, "There isn't anymore compact form of energy, there isn't anymore. You can't get anymore energy per dollar than you can from oil. So today, I think it makes sense to still rely on oil while, at the same time, we're looking for alternative fuels."
The signs told the story to the traffic passing by: drill here, drill now or alternative fuels.
But what about strawberries?
Zachary Sorensen who sells strawberries on Civic Center Drive says, "I'm protesting, trying to sell strawberries. I'm trying to make a living. And these people are ruining my business and driving my customers away."
14 year-old Sorensen and his strawberry stand got caught in the cross-fire.
Sorensen says, "I'm just trying to sell strawberries so I can go home."
There is one thing that everyone at the protest today agreed upon is the need for cheaper gas and oil.
But just how America will get there that's the major question.
See the moveOn guy in the video is on of the folks who is going to argue wrong is right, and drive up gas prices by supporting bad policy politicians, like Democrats who prefer tax increases to drilling.
Big thanks to the local GOP guy, he sounded great compared to moveOn Democrat. This are the kind of folks that Limbaugh means when he talks about people who are making a difference.
A Day of Action for an Oil-Free President.”
It’s easy to laugh at these people when they do and say such childish and silly things such as this. But in the end they are enemies of America and like any enemey they can be dangerous.....
Sorensen - strawberries
MoveOn - dingleberries
