Olympic Games: China curbs Tiananmen Square live broadcasts
Broadcasts from Tiananmen Square have been banned

The Chinese authorities have banned round-the-clock broadcasts from Tiananmen Square during the Olympics.
Beijing Games organisers yesterday cited fears of overcrowding as they told international broadcasters that they could set up live positions only between 6am and 10am and 9pm and 11pm local time because of competing demands for the world's largest urban square from tourists, heads of state and other VIPs.
The restrictions mean that the BBC's stock-in-trade live interview with its correspondent will be missing from primetime news programmes. What do you expect? China does not want the repeat of TAM uprising which occurred during Gorbachev's Beijing visit, covered live by international press at TAM.
Furthermore, Chinese crowds and pedestrians would be managed to the extent that N. Korea manages theirs when foreigners visit Pyongyang. It would be a quiet Olympic except CCTV(China Central TV)'s non-stop coverage of Chinese athletes' latest triumph and their ballooning medal count, interspersed with mega nationalistic rhetoric.
Ping!
What a charade.
Looks like I’ll have to take up reading books, when I’m not here, that is. ;-)
I have no interest in the Chicomm games and since the Indians have conceded the season I guess I’m waiting on NFL training camp and preseason:(.
A little off topic...but the article on Michael Phelps that is on the same page is a good read. What an athlete.
Lying ChiComs PING!
Yeah, The Tribe has mailed it in.
Unfettered access to foreign media - ain’t gonna happen. The truth about the ChiComs will be exposed for the whole world to see.
The IOC made its first mistake in even considering Peiping for the Olympics. The mistakes continue.
I really hope Sarkozy calls the ChiCom bluff and boycotts the Genocide Olympics 2008 - who would have thought that the French would be the ones most likely to stand up to the ChiCom filth!
There will be major news stories coming out of China with its Olympics. They won’t however, have anything to do with sports. It’s gonna be ugly.
14 or Fight! LOL. remember that movie? “Wild in the Streets?”
Sorry! Wrong article!
