Press Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 07/09/2008 Pelosi: President Must Tap Oil Reserve Immediately
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement reiterating her letter yesterday to President Bush urging him to immediately tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:
The Bush Administrations own Energy Information Administration announced yesterday that global supply uncertainties and increased worldwide demand are placing great pressure on our oil markets and driving record gas prices. It is time for the President to take the next step to help the American economy and American families and businesses. It took Congressional action to suspend filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve; now we need Presidential leadership to provide much-needed relief by drawing down a small portion of the Reserve.
This Administration has used the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in the past to combat both supply shortfalls and high energy prices, as have the Administrations of President Clinton and President George H.W. Bush. The Reserve currently holds 706 million barrels of oil the most the Reserve has ever held. A small drawdown of the Reserve would increase the supply in the market, reduce the price consumers are paying at the pump this summer, send a strong message to oil speculators and not adversely affect the national security of our country.
This Congress also supports responsible, increased domestic oil and gas production and thats why we want the industry to use the 68 million acres of public lands onshore and offshore they are sitting on. We will continue to push Use It or Lose It legislation that will force oil companies to drill or give up the leases so others can.
Pelosi needs her head tapped with a sledge hammer.
I hates politicians.
Hates thems.
Only Democrat voters are stupid enough to believe this.
... “so that it looks like the Democrat Congress helped by November. Or not, so we can blame the Republicans in November.”
Good to see the rats squirming.
“The Reserve currently holds 706 million barrels of oil” We use 25 million a day... that won’t last long and it’s a reserve for a specific reason. If she really wants to help prices maybe she should be in favor of drilling, or oil shale technology, or coal-to-oil, or perhaps all of the above. Now there’s a concept.
Typical DUmmy plan...open up reserves, but no adding refineries, no drilling in ANWR, no drilling in the gulf. In other words, no plan for tomorrow - just do what FEELS GOOD today!
Gee Nancy, maybe there is something to this supply and demand stuff huh?
Good ol’ 2PAC pelosi.. I feeeel her pain,, she must be getting whomped pretty good for being a 2 faced liar and being prepared to lead this country to prosperous times again. :-)
She said in 2006 Democrats had a simple common sense solution to the problem. Is this it? So the campaign was, “elect us so we can ask Bush to release the oil reserves?”
Is this lady a moron or a genuis who realizes a good portion of Americans are dumb enough to fall for this?
So increasing the supply by actually drilling for more oil won’t lower prices, but tapping into the strategic reserve WILL????
This country deserves to fall apart with the types of incompetents we tolerate in our government.
ROFLMHO...
Her government furnished jet must be out of fuel.
Newt Gingrich said he wanted to open 1/3 of the SOR, and drill here, Drill now, and turn coal to gas, and build Nuke plants.
This is a much better plan, and He suggested it first!
Iran is threatening to close the Straight of Harmuz and she wnts to drain our reserves? Criminal stupidity.
OOOOH, I bet the oil companies are scared now.
They determined there is no oil there years ago. What is the point of drilling where you are reasonably sure there is no oil?
Political grand standing by a worthless politicain.
