TxDOT In Disarray

SAN ANTONIO -- It's official. Texas Department Of Transportation really does need to be more accountable, responsive and transparent.

We could all guess what the Sunset Commission finally recognized: TxDOT is out of control and needs to take radical measures to restore trust.

Of course, TxDOT promises to do better, but we'll believe it when we see it.

They may be so far gone that the only way to fix TxDOT's mess is to disband them altogether and start over.

With a Trans-Texas Corridor and toll roads in play, as well as grossly miscalculated budgets, TxDOT needs more oversight now more than ever.

Until they realize they don't get a free ride with the public's money, TxDOT is likely to continue their pattern of mismanagement.

The report makes valid recommendations -- It's now up to the Legislature to act.

The end result of affirmative “action” hiring and promotion policy.

TxDOT has clearly shown that they are politically motivated and don’t want to be in the business they are in. That accounts for a lot of their enthusiasm for toll roads.

If they cannot/will not function as an agency responsible for developing and maintaining Texas roadways, they deserve to be scrapped and Texas should start over with all new people and administrators who understand the needs of Texans and Texas commuters. Due to TxDOT’s incompetence and Perry’s meddling (he’s not getting a pass, here), the I-35 corridor, which is central to a LOT of Texas travelers, has become a giant traffic nightmare.

That's like saying an incompetent employee can be made competent with more management.

TXDOT is filled with mental midgets in the planning and traffic engineering fields. I honestly think they would have trouble getting a one car funeral together.

I see how they and the political pygmies of the San Antonio city council have the highways just absolutely trashed and I just shake my head.

TXDOT must be hiring the bottom rung of the drafting classes at such sterling institutions as ITT Tech and Career Pointe Institute

Right!
A while back, one of our narrow FM roads was being “fixed up” by affirative action contractor, first the tar was put on so thick it uzzed up over the gravel and coated everyones car. After TXDOT fixed that, the SAME contractor was yellow side striping, their employees used some hand cart paint rig, but rode on pickup tailgate pulling the striper. The resulting strip looked like a long yellow snake wiggingly along the road.

Brought this to TXDOT’s attention and they “said they couldn’t hold the A-action contractor financially responsible for any repairs.

Doen’t take long for every A-action contractor to figure this deal out!!!

TXDOT does need complete redo!

Thanks again for all the pings!

...and just how long has it taken for Texas to recognize that TXDOT is out of control and in chaos?

Where's that pic of "Master of the Obvious"?

Oh this is just horrible...

You know I have an admission to make...

My Aunt has worked for TxDOT for most of her career...She is a great sourse of inside info on how things are in the trenches...

And I believe this article is dead on the money...

There are people like her that would do good to step into the vacumn created by a mass firing of all of th eupper eschelon of this organization...

I would guarantee a tremendous upswing in the quality and responsibility, both fiscally and PR-wise if this would ever occur...

I believe the entire state would benefit from this right from the start...Not just her, and those good folks she works with...
